I agree with this. OP, beyond high school ratings, what are you looking for in terms of community, housing, commute, etc? Schools are important but I think there are more factors to consider and perhaps we can help give you a better feel for each of the communities within the two clusters.

OP here. We are looking for a community similar to ours in Rockville--easy access to metro, good walking/biking trails, many working families, ability to commute up or down county relatively easily. But we don't love the layout of our house--we are in a classic Rockville split level with no larger space for our kids to hang out or run around. We have a large yard but it's on a hill. We don't have a garage. It would be nice to live in a community that is a bit more cohesive with more kids playing together, a central playground/park/pool, etc.

How about New Mark Commons? I don't love the homes there, but there seems to be some community and kids hanging out at the community pool. I think most of the homes there do have garages, though some are split level, too. Not a lot on the market right now, though.

You may be able to find a home with a carport or garage in College Gardens. Nothing on the market at the moment.

Can you define easy access to metro? Does that mean 10 minutes walking? Or is it ok to be a 15-minute bus ride with a 5-minute walk to the bus?

Ideally would like a short drive (5 minutes) or a bike ride within 2 miles or so.

King Farm - but you won't have a large yard (that can be an advantage sometimes). The kids play in the alleys (parents block off with cones, etc.), pocket parks and the large parks. Great community swim team and activities.

Near Rockville Town Square. It is one of the most undervalued areas in Montgomery County right now and it has everything you want. You have to act fast though, all the houses seem to go under contract after the first weekend. I think people are discovering it. Close to metro, library, pools, food, shopping, good schools, lots of families, etc. you should have seen Welsh Park today. Dozens of people coming and going to spend time sledding down the hills. You can get a home for under 700 but you do need to act fast when they come up.

The area around 270 and Falls rd is about 2 miles to rockville metro. You can find houses for about that in the area. Might have to wait a bit for more to come on the market.

What the communities around 270 and falls road?

There are a few.

New Mark Commons
Fallsmead
Horizon Hill
Potomac Woods
West End

I think of those lists, only Fallsmead is zoned for Wootton cluster.. The rest go to RM cluster.

DP.. I like that area, but the only thing is a lot of the older homes there don't have garages, and I think OP wanted a garage, so do I.

You could also do Rockville HS cluster near Rockville Town Center, but I am not sure if the home prices there would appreciate as fast as those on the other side of the Pike in RM cluster. The houses there are cheaper though.

They don’t but most have a carport which could be converted to a garage. There are a lot of carport to garage conversions.
