No thanks. If I wanted my child to learn from a computer, I could keep him home and homeschool him like that. I don't want that. |
Sounds great to me! My DS is already grade skipped in math, and the pace is still too slow for him. FCPS doesn't know how to handle outliers. |
My son has a really high iq but I am still okay with aap. The devil you know and all that. |
| Is it the opinion of many parents that AAP selection is a bit unpredictable? Is the case of 96% and 15 GBRS not being selected for AAP more common? I was thinking 132 and above in NNAT or CoGAT and a >12 GBRS is a slam sunk. |
A 132 or above in one test and a 12 GBRS is not a slam dunk. A slam dunk is high score on both tests + a very high GBRS OR a 12 GBRS and maybe a 140 on the CogAT. But a 132 on the NNAT (generally thought to be the less weighted test) and a 12 GBRS is likely dependent on what the Cogat was. |
What about a WISC V score? Does a 125 WISC outweigh a 132 NNAT or CogAT? |
No. The three friends I know with kids like that range: one was admitted initially, one wasn't, one was upon reapplication in 4th. In one instance, the psych said a 125 would be enough. Clearly, it may or may not be. |
Nobody really knows. We're all just guessing based on anecdata. The anecdata I've seen suggests that low 120s on the CogAT or WISC + good student/good GBRS will get in if the verbal score is high, even if the quantitive and nonverbal scores are low-ish. A CogAT composite/WISC in the high 120s-low 130s with high GBRS may get rejected if the verbal score is < 120, but the quantitative and nonverbal scores are the high ones. NNAT doesn't matter much for non-ESOL kids, since the score doesn't correspond to language arts abilities. |
| ok |
| I am just curious to know if there is any data out there suggesting children in AAP do better when it comes to college admission or long term academic success? Just moved to the area and can't understand the fuss about this. |
It is currently the only way in FCPS to get on an advanced math track and work on harder language arts assignments in elementary. Same for middle. |
Not exactly. Many non-center elementary schools have advanced math and in middle school, there are honors classes. |
