I cannot stand our gentle labrador retriever

This relationship sounds like torture for all of you. Small condo/husband traveling/sweet dog, the thing will be snatched up in seconds by people who will adore it.

My golden will only eat for her special sitter. If I were to drop her off someplace strange she would be a nervous wreck. The last time we tried that she wouldn't eat or go to the bathroom.

On the positive side, she is exceptionally gentle and sweet. And she is unquestionably loyal and would no doubt lay down her life for us if push ever came to shove.

Did you read the OP? She said she and her child often go visit the dad for weeks on end, leaving the dog with a sitter. Your situation does not sound comparable. Letting the dog go live with a new family would be a kindness for everyone.

Do you brush the dog or get him groomed. Dogs shed, but unless you are not cleaning, it should not be that bad except for once or twice a year. Get one of those fancy dog brushes that look like a giant loop. Brush the dog at least once a week. It will cutback on the dog hair in your house.

I missed the part of where they left the dog with a sitter for weeks on end. Agree that they should look into rehoming the dog.

I think lots of people would love a sweet, mature, laid back lab. What's not to love?

What kind of flooring do you have in your house? It is natural and healthy for a dog to shed. Is it possible that you are just not noticing the fur?

Some shedding is norma, but excessive shedding can be avoided. I honestly think I shed more than my border collie.

You probably should rehome the dog. AND NEVER GET ANOTHER ONE AS YOU ARE NOT A DOG PERSON.

+1. Why would you even get a dog? You suck.

Hi OP, I'm the OP from the other thread "I want a dog so badly."

If you want to email me to see if we can work something out, please do so at MoCoLabrador@gmail.com . We are in a single family house with a fenced yard, access to a dog park and trails, and three kids who would adore a dog.

There are also two really good Lab rescue organizations locally:

https://www.lab-rescue.org/

http://lrr.org/

I think it's OK to think about rehoming your dog. I don't think it will traumatize her, and I don't think you're a bad person for not wanting her in your situation.

Would love her to shed all over my floor for years to come, and I think the dog hair is gross too. I feel so bad for your dog who sounds like a great animal. I know some people are not dog people and those people should ever get a dog in the first place. Very sad situation for the animal to not be wanted

I'm so sorry, PP. I know it is heartbreaking. Hugs.

I'm so sorry, too. I feel the same way about my pets - I want them to be here tearing up our furniture and shedding all over, forever.

Thank you very much to the both of you!

OP here. I feel bad for the dog, too. But I cannot force myself to bond with her. I am just not a dog person.

That's all I need to know about you.

Brush the dog 1-2x a week when you are outside.
Give the dog a shower every other week.
Wipe the floors down with a swiffer 1x per day. It's super fast.

Try that for a few weeks to see if it's better. That's our routine now and the dog hair is under control.

Love this! Would be great for the dog to have a home where he is fawned over and loved.
