Adopting newborn at 52 years old?

And then the rich women (and couples) adopting always went for the babies or those under 2 or 3.

There's no feeling quite like the one when you're 17.5, nearing aging out, and realizing you have no one. You have nothing. Totally alone and about to be abandoned again, but this time by the system that "took care of you."

I know so many gay & lesbian couples in their 70s and older now who would have loved to have adopted kids years ago but weren't allowed. It's disgusting that people with love to give weren't allowed in favor of "nuclear traditional families."

Such a lovely and true post. OP, maybe try to live your own life and MYOB about others.

Wow hope you are okay pp.
Can I ask why you were in the system? Do we have an issue where the country doesn’t cut off parental rights soon enough to help kids get adopted by qualified families? I also agree that single and gay families should be considered fine to adopt. The only thing that I would caveat is that if adopting single it would be mandatory to have a survivor plan and insurance with a legal trustee in case of emergency and sudden death. I am
Sure Hoda has all her ducks I order where something to happen to her or her partner.

Selfish narcissist rich “elite”. If she cared, which she doesn’t, she’d adopt a grown child.

She's the proud mother of two toddlers under 3 at the age of 54. Go Hoda go.

This woman is clearly attempting to fill some emotional or psychological void. Stop showering her with phony praise.

Wow-I would love to have Hoda as my mom. Can anyone ever be happy for people anymore?

No doubt, her daughter will have a great life with nannies, a nice lifestyle, hopefully a good inheritance. But it does seem awfully old to be starting your family, especially as a single parent where your chlid is left with a guardian if you die. She'll be 70 when her daughter graduates high school.

It's not easy to adopt a healthy infant, so it also feels like her money/fame is making it possible for her to get a child others wouldn't have the same chance at.

Thoughts? Should there be an upper age limit on adopting infants? (There already is with many international adoptions, not sure about domestic/foster care.)

Unfair to the child? BS! I wish she would adopt me! Americans are so damned ageist, especially against women.

Easy for you to say. You're not the little girl who will have a 70 year old mother at her high school graduation.

Why, exactly, does this matter? You are ridiculous. And bitter. Have a nice day!

Hoda seems like a great mom. Her face lights up when she talks about her kids.

My mom is over 70 and is hella capable. She could be raising her teenaged grandkids easily and they'd be lucky to have her.

Wanting two under three is a sign of an emotional void? I think your posting that drivel is a sign of a mental void.

Congratulations to Hoda! Her children are lucky to have her. She seems very warm, caring, real.

Better than having no mother. Shut up, trash.

Seriously, guys?

This is an extremely wealthy woman who has every resource, including top-notch healthcare, at her fingertips.

Even if she were to pass away prematurely, her kid will be utterly, completely FINE.

I mean, look at all the grandparents (most of them older than 52) raising their grandchildren due to parental addiction. These folks don't have anywhere near the resources of Kotb, but I would guess that those kids, too, largely turn out OK.

Would you rather the little girl have no mother?

I'm sorry, PP, but this different.

Newborns get adopted easily, like you said. Hoda is NOT a saint or a savior for adopting. If not her, another couple/single person would have adopted the baby.

It is the older children who need families. And ANYONE should be able to adopt. Race, gender, age. Whatever. Every child should go to a loving family/person.

But that is not what is happening here. Hoda adopted a newborn, who would have been adopted anyway simply because she is a newborn.
