OP here - love the replies i think the problem is most of us probably think we still look young....I definitely do...I see other people my age and I'm like WOW they look old....I probably look old too but my nice lighting in my bathroom doesn't let me see it. it's hard to be objective....

Totally agree. I always see friends and old classmates after a while and think "wow, they've really aged, I guess I'm just lucky." But I don't look at myself all day, everyday. My educated guess is that I'm probably not as lucky as I think!

The knit sweaters and tailored blouses had the bottom part that snapped.

That's what I'm referring to as a bodysuit - knit top with snaps in the crotch like a onesie. If you are still wearing those now that's kind of sad. I think the other thing you mention is called a catsuit, which is a very different animal.

I think we should all just shop at Chico's.

If its ok to shop at H&M I don't see why its not ok to shop at Forever21. They both have items that no one over 22 should wear, as well as items that paired with classy slacks, shoes, or skirts with a nice sweater could be worn by almost anyone in decent shape.

There's a big difference between a 35-40 y.o. buying this shirt:

as opposed to this one:

I absolutely agree, although my daughter would advocate for the 'Kitty as a guaranteed prettifier for anyone!

That is probably a good litmus test, if your preschooler loves what you are wearing and would wear it yourself you may want to think twice. My DD always picks out some lovely flip flops with big jewels when we go shoe shopping for me.

ok, laugh at me if you need to ... but I attended both the recent NKOTB concerts in DC. At both, I looked around and thought "WOW, why do these women look so OLD?" I know I look better than about 75% of them. I don't claim to be a beauty, but I am only about a size bigger than I was in HS, still wearing petite clothing and still able to pull off some things from the juniors department. I have a hard time finding clothes that don't make me look like a little girl trying to play dress up (even in my early 30s) - last fall, while shopping for a dress for a couple weddings, I couldn't find anything in petites departments but got a dress from Macy's junior section instead. AND that dress got me tons of compliments - people thought I had gotten it at Nordies or something.

I will never be able to pull off a cute bikini anymore (darn childbearing), but I still look very much the same as I did in college. I walk that fine line between dressing too young and dressing too old for ME - FWIW, I always looked younger than I am, which was a fate worse than death in college, but WONDERFUL now when looking around at other 30-somethings that I can't BELIEVE are the same age as me!

Stay away from slutty and over-logo-ed shit

Really, Banana Republic only sometimes? I never considered that a 25 year old only store. I would Anthropologie would get a "sometimes" more than Banana Republic.

Not PP, but I generally find BR clothe are not attractive enough to make up for the low quality. Anthropologie clothes are also not great quality, but they're cuter and more distinctive (IMHO of course). I agree with just about everything else on her list, but I also like sweaters from Vince.

Almost all of these are really poorly made and fall apart. When J Crew and even BR first came out it was better but the quality has just gone downhill. I like the look of Theory but same problem it falls apart.

I find that with reasonable wear they last for a couple of years. I don't expect more than that for things that are generally kind of trendy and not all that expensive.
