LOL nice try. Brandeis doesn't even belong in the same sentence.

Actually, the three schools are grouped together by every metric.

Wesleyan always gave me a kind of didn’t get into Amherst vibe.

Except you only have to wear one mask at a time.

They attract different students. Wesleyan is more didn’t get into Brown.

Wesleyan is hard to get into. Not as hard as some schools, of course, but the acceptance rate is less than 20% and it’s a pretty self selected group. I went to an info session and tour there this summer and the prospective students were far more engaged than at any other school we’ve looked at. The tour guides were also much more self confident than at other schools. Haven’t looked at Tufts though and don’t know much about it other than that it is a good school.

Tufts acceptance rate was 11% this year. Both schools have their particular strength and quirks and both are competitive.

Come on. Brandeis is not close to the same level as Tufts and Wesleyan. I don't know anyone who applied to Tufts and Wesleyan who even considered Brandeis, not even as a safety.

You are totally wrong. Wesleyan is one of the top slacs. It's on a par with Williams and Amherst. Very difficult to get in. Tufts is also hard to get in, but not nearly as prestigious as Wesleyan. Both are excellent schools though.

While I will not argue with your statement that both are excellent schools - they are. I have to take issue with your claiming Wesleyan is either academically or competitively on par with Williams and Amherst. That’s just misinformation.

Wesleyan attracts somewhat more artsy and political applicants.

But don't let stereotypes fool you. Wesleyan also attracts plenty of athletes, future bankers, future doctors, etc. And Tufts attracts plenty of artsy people.

+1. Just to reiterate that Wes is good for STEM type studies as well and so many of their graduates go on to med school etc. My daughter is interested in majoring in STEM type major but loves the access to many of the arts courses (music composition, dance etc.). It really does pick a certain type of a student who is interested in a range of things, not just one thing (e.g. mix of interest in arts/sports/academics). My daughter also went to a private school (non-parochial boarding school in northeast) and they mention that Wes looks for a certain profile in addition to academics.

This is yet another similarity between the two schools as it has long been acknowledged that Tufts purposefully shapes its student profile each year, to a point that is so mystifying no one can completely say what
typical Tufts student. I

Interesting, because every current Tufts student we know (at least 6 off top of my head), and Tufts grads I know, are all smart and well rounded people but not “stand outs” in any area or interest in the sense of being a part of a effort to create an interesting class at Tufts. I’d say they are all inside of the box types. Vs the Wes students we know do have a “spark” of something that puts them if not outside of the box then at least on the edge of the box.

I don’t know much about Tufts - though two of my friends went there are and lovely, accomplished people. They have a much nicer house than us and their kids never eat sugar and are very well-mannered, putting them WAY above me in the DCUM “success olympics”.

But, I kind of understand about that Wes “spark” thing. I used to be in academic medicine (in a top 3 med school) and at one point there were 4 Wes grads in the department. All of us have pretty “big” personalities. People used to wonder what was in the water at “that little college I’ve never heard of”.
And the former FDA director was in my chemistry class.
Also, there are tons of Wes grads in Hollywood, and they seem to work together. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of free time, but my friend told me that I HAD to watch White Lotus because I’d LOVE it. I noticed that the creator was from Wes, and the casting director (Meredith Tucker) was at Wes at the same time as me (This is off-topic, but those opening credits are pretty awesome, even if you aren’t alumni-spotting).

PP here. I want to specify that I do not think Wes is better than Tufts!
My friends who went to Tufts just seem more subdued and normal. At their wedding, their Tufts friends were all successful and delightful.
The people at Wes were (generally) a bit “more” or “extra”. This isn’t necessarily a good thing. It’s just a thing. It was actually a bit exhausting at times.

Wesleyan is an excellent LAC. It is definitely not on par with Williams or Amherst, or with Ponoma or Carleton.

Tufts is more "prestigious" than Wesleyan, if that's what you care about. I really don't know where you're getting your information LOL.

People on this site live in lala land if they think Wesleyan is prestigious. It's not even that hard to get into, y'all are delusional.

Neither are prestigious… people are weird and a tad desperate.
