What does "on par" mean? If you you look at admitted student stats you see substantial overlap. Placement of graduates looks fairly similar too. Wesleyan is something like 40 or 50 percent larger and is slightly less selective, but it is still very selective. The athletes seem pretty similar at all of those colleges mentioned. The art, theater and music opportunities seem strongest at Wesleyan. |
Sub-20% acceptance rate is by definition “hard to get into.” People who choose to go there aren’t looking for the kind of prestige that matters to you. |

it! - from our hs and friend groups, Tufts seems to draw more of the “well rounded” kids and Wes draws more slightly offbeat ones (“I want to major in neurobiology with minors in japanese and ukelele”). |
Good answer. Our experience is the same. But Wesleyan also attracts plenty of ordinary good students and a LOT of athletes who could have been recruited by and matriculated at any of the many LACs that emphasize team sports. Also, we do know some microbiology majors-Japanese and Ukelele minors who chose Tufts, although Wesleyan has more of them. |
