You are totally wrong. Wesleyan is one of the top slacs. It's on a par with Williams and Amherst. Very difficult to get in. Tufts is also hard to get in, but not nearly as prestigious as Wesleyan. Both are excellent schools though.

While I will not argue with your statement that both are excellent schools - they are. I have to take issue with your claiming Wesleyan is either academically or competitively on par with Williams and Amherst. That’s just misinformation.

Wesleyan is an excellent LAC. It is definitely not on par with Williams or Amherst, or with Ponoma or Carleton.

What does "on par" mean? If you you look at admitted student stats you see substantial overlap. Placement of graduates looks fairly similar too. Wesleyan is something like 40 or 50 percent larger and is slightly less selective, but it is still very selective. The athletes seem pretty similar at all of those colleges mentioned. The art, theater and music opportunities seem strongest at Wesleyan.

People on this site live in lala land if they think Wesleyan is prestigious. It's not even that hard to get into, y'all are delusional.

Sub-20% acceptance rate is by definition “hard to get into.” People who choose to go there aren’t looking for the kind of prestige that matters to you.

And? It was 16% the previous year. Both are sub 20%.

9 pages in and still no real answer. OP this board is for entertainment only. Pick the school that you think is best for your child. They can get a great education at either school.

I am sure there is tons of overlap in students who apply to both, but - and this is obviously all opiniom but you asked for
it! - from our hs and friend groups, Tufts seems to draw more of the “well rounded” kids and Wes draws more slightly offbeat ones (“I want to major in neurobiology with minors in japanese and ukelele”).

Good answer. Our experience is the same. But Wesleyan also attracts plenty of ordinary good students and a LOT of athletes who could have been recruited by and matriculated at any of the many LACs that emphasize team sports. Also, we do know some microbiology majors-Japanese and Ukelele minors who chose Tufts, although Wesleyan has more of them.
