| If they can get in to magnet sci in 11/12. First priority is SMAC |
| Wow, who on earth who wants STEM chooses CAP over SMAC. Good god! |
I thought I heard at the SMAC info night in October that most magnet electives are full of magnet students - there usually aren't more than a couple of spots available for non-magnet students. |
| Well, let's hope it works out for our child! The letter is in the mail. I'll probably have all kinds of second-guessing, and DC will too but both programs are good, and DC wanted a more rounded education despite being enthralled by the science classes. Also, more into filmmaking than computer programming, physics classes aside. |
| Wouldn't let the "know it alls" be the judge and jury about a personal and family decision. There are many paths to success and sometimes the more common or conventional path is not necessarily the right one for everyone. I commend your child for making a tough choice and you for supporting such. |
| When I was in college, the pre-med students who chose unconventional non-science majors, while making sure to keep up with the science requirements, got into the "best" med schools in the end. Sometimes, people don't just want the typical. Good luck to you and your DC! |
| Thank you, PP's! |
Not necessarily because they were non-science majors but perhaps because they were unusual in that they were good in all their subjects- this might be a self-selected group of highly able and motivated students who are all-round great students, |
This was me - I am sorry if it seemed like I was second-guessing your child's decision. I am sure he or she had excellent reasons to pick CAP over SMAC. Onward and Upward! |
Well, I did have a slight panic attack at the thought of those full classes!
But we are all good. Thanks for the good wishes! |
