Deciding between magnets

Does anyone know whether CAP kids sometimes also shadow (or Blair more generally allows shadowing)?

I wish we had asked about shadowing a non-magnet class. Would have been nice to experience English too..

Yes they are allowing it but you have to ask the administrator.

I wish we had asked about shadowing a non-magnet class. Would have been nice to experience English too..

I've heard the magnet kids typically take honors or AP English /Social sTudies at blair and these classes are generally very good.

Most Blair 9th grade magnets are in honors for all non magnet classes, and in 10th it's AP & honors

Thanks - I think our child's decision is made and he wants Blair magnet over RMIB.

With all the pros and con, we want DC to go to RMIB but it is his decision to make.

DC ended up decided to go to RMIB with a very different set of reasons:
1. Does not want to get dirty in GE (all the field trips - sandy, muddy or snowy)
2. Does not like computer science (he is very good in programming but doesn't like it)
3. He likes classical music, and RMIB provide Music as a elective track (9th gr. instrumental; 10th gr. AP music theory; 11th gr. IB music1; and 12th gr. IB Music2) which allows him to choose Music in college if he wants to.
4. RMIB math is easy for him. (He has 9th gr. friends in RMIB, so he knows) it will give him more time to work on other subjects (or play).

In PHS information night, he was a bit intimidated by the absolute majority of Indian kids in SMAC; and scared by the passion (sounded like environmental activists) of the GE kids.

He attended RMIB information night on Mon, and shadowed a freshman yesterday. He feels more comfortable attending RMIB. Students he talked with were bright, positive, and very happy with the program.

Congrats! I think your DS made an excellent choice. Even though I wouldn't characterize RMIB math as "easy." But that's ok.

Shadowed at RM this morning. I guess it was not a great morning for shadowing with lots of testing going on. He ended up in a non-IB elective, and 2 English classes (with different teachers) not so great for variety but interesting two compare to teachers on the same subject. No decision made.

What are the field trips??

PP is talking about Global Ecology (GE) program at Poolesville which has a lot of outdoor activities. Even my DC, who was not too crazy about outdoor stuff, really enjoyed the field trips.

So my child chose CAP over Blair magnet, even though DC wants to major STEM in college. I'm not in the sciences, so hope to goodness that CAP and all that media is good preparation after all, and that taking magnet sciences in 11th and 12th will be enough!
