It's too young for a CLASS trip that is this big of a deal. If you want to take your own kids and go as a family, great. But this is too young to be hauling a class of kids halfway around the world, when some of them (many?) most likely aren't even ready to appreciate it. Poll them, and I bet they'd rather go to Disney World. |
Wow, you must not have any kids close to 4th or 5th grade in age. Too bad you can't see the video the students made of their trip last year. That alone would be plenty of proof that you have no idea how much a 5th grader can get out of a trip like this, and then articulately describe as they present on the trip when they get back. You seriously underestimate what they can absorb and benefit from, as well as how excited they were. |

| This has already been covered. The only feeder schools that have 5th grade trips (outside the continental U.S.) are Stokes and DC Bilingual. |
I think your circle is small. Most I know have au pairs as evidenced by the schools recent request to "ask care givers" to serve as Chinese readers and ambassadors during the new year. Hello. Those are the au pairs. |
Life isn't fair. I would really like to take a private jet to china that I can't afford. Maybe the PA will pay. |
LAMB also has a fifth grade trip outside the continental USA based on that other thread. How is that different from what I said. mV does not have a fifth grade, so they may or may not decide to have a trip. MV is a question mark as it is not ripe. YY goes to NYC?There are only five schools that feed into DCI. This accounts for all five schools. |
| If so many kids have Chinese au pairs, it's probably from the younger classes. My kid is in the older grade, and there were very few AP in those classes. Several kids did have tutors, but more of them did not. I guess the wealthier YY classes (younger) the more disposable the income the families have for these APs. I did not hear about them for grades three and above. Maybe the bubble class started this trend, if it is real. |
| Blame the bubble class... |
LAMB HAD a trip one year - several years ago. Not anymore. Cost and energy required to fundraise for it (instead of for things benefitting entire school was a major factor in discontinuing it. |
Thanks for correcting this PP (you beat me to it). As a said before, only 2 feeder schools offer trips outside the continental U.S. Before you correct anyone, please check your facts. |
Thank you first PP. As I stated in my earlier post, my info came from an earlier thread where this info was posted. Thanks for the update and your correction is well received. PP number two. Will do bitch |
Interesting, so you think a public school that sponsors, organizes, and hypes a 5th grade class trip that pretty much by definition no low income families will be able to afford should just say to the kids who can't go "Oh well, life isn't fair. You're at a school with a lot of well-resourced parents who can pay for their kid, siblings, and both parents to go... sucks to be you and miss the trip"? You're exactly what's very wrong with the "charter as private school funded with public money" expectations of so many DC parents. |
Lol--You're loud, wrong[b] and crass! You sound like a real gem...sweetheart. |
