What are the "worst" schools in MCPS and why?

Are you a teacher? Why do you need to work 2-3 jobs? The MCPS teachers' pay doesn't look too bad, together with excellent benefits including insurance, retirement and off days.

I know some 2-teachers families, it seems they are doing quite well.

The PP wasn't referring to herself. Her comment is that the parents of her STUDENTS works multiple jobs.

Correct, those are all great schools and student bodies. The work hard, play sports, take challenging classes and are generally respectful students.

And most are very wealthy kids who have every advantage possible.

Why are people so stupid?

That's right. It's not the goddamn school. It's the MONEY the rich folks pour into the schools.

Actually, I fully believe it's the student body. I am a college alumni interviewer and there's just a lot of really neat kids in many of these schools. And no, their parents, who by far both work, are not all "rich folks".

I really hope you are not raising your children with as much hate, fake envy and rage as you seem to have. You energy could be used in much better ways.

oh - Thanks for proving my point about people being so stupid! How old are you, btw?

Honey Bunny, the parents of my kids work 2 - sometimes 3 jobs. They don't have have money. They can barely survive day to day.

Go fuck off and stay in your La La Land. Maybe one day reality will make you realize that these "neat" (who uses that word?) kids have every goddamn advantage in the world. Even a $400,000 home is out of reach for many of the kids I teach.

And I'm a hater? lol! I love my students - and I do it by not pitying them to their faces. But I recognize that they're at a disadvantage. You, on the other hand, have no clue.

Opps.

That doesn't prevent my kid from being a straight A kid.

As a counter to the previous list of a 'bad' school, I would try to avoid a school that:
1. emphasizes materialism above achievement
2. has a student body that relies on adhd drugs to get high.
3. Has a culture of partying -- drinking in parents houses.
4. focuses more on presenting a pretty picture rather than substance of the person.

Just a counter to the concern about non-painted walls….

I'm the PP that made the list that I think you are referring to, but no where did I state about "non-painted walls". I stated that a bad school was one where the building was falling apart and had mold issues. Would you want your kid to go to a school where the building was falling apart and had mold issues? I don't think so.

And I would agree about your list, too, but these aren't obvious things you can see by visiting the school. FWIW, I don't live in a W cluster. We chose a different cluster and avoided the W cluster because of some of the issues that I know may exist in a student body that mostly come from wealthy families. We moved out of a wealthy school district (not MCPS) in part because of some of those kinds of issues in the schools.

This is so, so true. The teaching at Blair and Northwood is horrible. The principal at Blair wouldn't make it outside the DCC or NEC. The problem is that MCPS assigns the dregs to the poorer schools. These idiots want to move up the ladder and do things that are unthinkable outside the NEC and DCC.

What's the problem with the principal at Blair? I sincerely hope that you don't answer, "She tweets, she takes selfies, and she wants to dismantle the magnet program."

Not the PP. But she cannot spell and write proper English.

The same can be said for lots of posters on DCUM, who apparently have fancy, high-powered jobs.

The difference is that the Blair principal was an Engleesh techr (intentional bad spelling, ya'll).

So if you're a lawyer with several Ivy League degrees who earns $300,000 a year, it's fine to have lousy spelling and non-standard English, but if you used to be an English teacher and now you're the principal of Blair, it's just awful?

Go cheap house and private school - grace episcopal or catholic. Take it from me, you want to avoid this train wreck at all costs. Maybe swing back for high school magnet program if the ‘wokes’ haven’t killed them off. (They are hot houses for overachievers but hey private high school tuition is no joke). After great foundational work in cheap private school even average intelligent kid can rock into an MCPS magnet.

We got a cheap house (under 600K that that OP specified). We bought in DCC and went private for middle school but public for high school. 2 kids thriving at Einstein in the IB Program.

And yes, I know this thread it old but it came up again.

Why are we paying so much about 250,000 more to live in mcps district when the schools are not safe or organized in middle school and high.

Good time for you to transition to home schooling. Move into a shoebox in Frederick, AACo, or PGCo and live off one income while you educate your child at home.

Don’t think of it as best and worst, think of it as most to least desirable that has a direct correlation to the cumulative societal preference for the students demographics and affluence of said schools.

Any school with no Asians. A reason Asian starts with A.

Bsians now way. It is Asian. They don’t get Bs

Right now, the worst are in thousands of households where the parents are posting stupid stuff on DCUM instead of reading to their child or helping them figure out long division.
