| In India I had chai tea and was sort of mindblown. Like, this is the perfect version of this perfect drink! |
This reminds me, when I was a teenager, I visited China and one morning we had a few hours free and went walking to the local open air market. One of the vendors had fresh lychees. I had only had the ones that come in canned syrup and so didn't know what to expect. Bought them, and peeled the skin and there was the lychee fruit inside the shell. It was so juicy, it was almost floating inside the shell in its own juice. I expect something like the canned syrup, but it was nothing like that, and it was amazingly heavenly. It was like the difference between a fresh good farmer's market peach at the peak of ripeness vs Dole canned peaches. Amazing...and it's virtually impossible to get fresh lychees here in the US. The peak season is something like 3 weeks. |
Yes! My grandma's house in PA had a whole field full of them in a good summer. Nothing like them. Also, Peruvian chicken from El Pollo Rico |
| a freshly picked apple |
| I loved Alegria in Vienna, but they changed it to Bazins next door and now it is only private catering. |
I thought the same. I think it is an acquired taste and newbies think it's gross and stinky. |

Fettucine Alfredo. Pretty much anywhere, even my college dining hall. I wish someone would try to drown me in it so I could eat my way to safety.
And the ribs at Houston's/Woodmont Grille. |
Not me at all. The first time I had sushi I was in awe. It hit all the flavor and texture spots for me: sweet, salty, spicy, vinegary, sour, chewy, crunchy, soft, creamy. It's my perfect food. The first time I had it I couldn't even believe it existed. Obviously, I like the Cadillac rolls with all the ingredients!! |
Magic mushrooms. On pizza and in tea

I thought of the same thing. So good. My grandma's fried chicken and biscuits are up there, too. |
Love this thread! And there seems to be a boat load of consensus around this Rasika dish...making my reservation today! |
Oh yes it was love at first bite for me too. And I was a kid, and we ate sashimi. It tastes like 'home,' which is odd because I am not Japanese. But I suppose my ancestors lived mainly on fish and seaweed too, and oats. |
| Fruit like apples, watermelon or grapefruit with black salt. So so good! I also loved watermelon, feta and mint together but am now vegan. |

I still remember the first time I had walnut cream sauce on pasta. I had it here in 1993-94 at Cafe Odeon. I haven't been there in at least 15 years but I remember that first bite. Not many places do walnut cream sauce. It is amazing. Vace used to make it and sell it frozen but I don't know if they do anymore.
I agree with the palak chaat at Rasika. I would also add the burrata/kale salad at Mintwood Place is magical. The kale is flash fried like the spinach. |
Hahahaha! |
