Everyone that I know have a name that could also be a first name as a second name. This must be a new American custm. If you look at genealogy, there is no great granny Agnes Jones Smith, Alexander Kardasian Hilton

Actually in my family tree this was somewhat common in the late 1800s and early to mid 1900s. A few examples: Father "Alfred Jones" and mother "Elorza York" have son "Nicholas York Jones" or even Father "Jacob Hartzell" and Mother "Ellen Tuverne" have daughter "Susan Tuverne Hartzell" and later son "Edward Tuverne Hartzell".

Not saying my experience is representative, but this custom certainly isn't unheard of. I think it's nice because it allows for some connection to the maternal family line.

While that would be very interesting and quite a wonderful fairy tale human interest story for those of us who are fans of the Clintons and the Royals, I think it would be an unmitigated disaster for HRH Prince George and miss Mezvinsky and their families. There is no way this would or should be actively encouraged by anyone in either child's family circle, and I hope for their sake they do not end up falling in love with each other at any point, because I cannot even begin to imagine the complications that such a marriage would face.

HRH Prince George is in line for the throne... it may or may not be an issue in this day and age if he eventually wants to marry an American (it probably wouldn't be, because there were other specific details about Ms. Simpson's situation that made her a particularly controversial choice, which probably wouldn't apply here)... however if it is a major issue, then the parallels of the two situations are really quite obvious.
