OK to trap cat and take to shelter?

I trapped a feral kitten (maybe 8 weeks old) because it was left in our yard with our dog and it was driving her crazy. I trapped the kitten and took him to a no kill shelter where it took months for him to become socialized and adoptable. I brought in donations and checked in on him every so often. The are an over abundance of cats at the shelter and not enough people to adopt them all. Dogs seem to come in much less frequently and certainly never puppies. Dog people seem to get it and get their animals fixed. On our street all the dog owners have fixed dogs and the cat owners always have kittens to give away.

Really? The cat owners in your neighborhood have kittens to give away? I've never experienced that - every cat owner I know has spayed or neutered their cats. They have gone to the shelter for kittens.

I have always thought that a cat was more like a hamster - you can get one just about anywhere, anytime for free. Lose one, it runs away, just grab another one on your way home.

At least a dog can be trained to be remotely obedient most of the time.

Really. It kind of pisses me off. $35 at Spay Spot and they could stop having this issue. One neighbor's cat had two litters before she was a year old. It's gross.
