Okay, so I am the poster that posted the "condescending" information regarding Montessori and the mixed aged classrooms. Clearly there are people who are not familiar with Montessori and how the classrooms work, as evidenced by the above post. I really do suggest that parents read up on AMI Montessori--google it--before you get yourself into something and then freak out or become displeased. I remember the Yu Ying administrators complaining that there are parents whose kids showed up at Yu Ying on the first day and were surprised that Yu Ying was Chinese immersion. That is an extreme case, you shouldn't assume that someone sending their kid to Lee knows about the uniqueness of Montessori and how the classrooms work. Like don't be on DCUM complaining that your kid never has homework at Lee and isn't learning to write block letters, but is tracing cursive letters at five years old. Doesn't mean you are dumb, but really do yourself and your kids a favor and research beforehand. |
| I did not know anything about Montessori education before the lottery process but the more I learn the more excited I am. |
Why? While Montessori classrooms are typically 3-6 age then 6-9, they are not always. It's a perfectly reasonable question. Please take your superiority complex elsewhere. It's not becoming. |
|
But a five year old would never be in class with 6 and 7 year olds. Maybe with 6 but never with 7.
No one is saying the question is not reasonable, just that the poster's question is evidence that not all people know the finer points of Montessori and should do their research, as the poster is clearly doing by asking the question. Many people do not research ahead of time and end up putting themselves, their child and the school in a difficult position. |
Yeah, but it's a school...that her child gets to go to...that is (hopefully) not failing. I think the lack of options puts people in this position because something is better than nothing. I could have researched the crap out of Montessori and still not getting in... So I'm not sure it's a fair perspective. It's good she is learning now. |
| Everyone take a deep breath. |
| Lee seems like it is going to be wonderful! |

Bump
|
| What are you bumping? |
| Prob cause they had another info session tonight. |
| Yes, there's nothing to bump about. I suspect that some people (those involved??) keep promoting Lee for some reason, without knowing anything about it! |
|
"Bump" to the top if the topic list to revive the discussion.
|
| FWIW tonight's info session was great. |
| Ok, but bump with a question or comment please guys! |
