My kids' daycare is closed Easter Monday, so it's not just the school systems. |
Right, because if you don't get snow day #6 until after Presidents Day, then obviously Presidents Day is no longer a make-up day. |
If the daycare is in Mont. County, they might be using MCPS as their example on why to be closed. |
Or, alternatively, because they can't legally have school on Presidents Day unless they get a waiver from the state. |
Don't worry. No significant instruction will be done that day. I would be willing to bet money that my kids will be watching movies or doing some other busy work that day because so many kids will be out. I may not even send mine because I know it will be a useless day. |
Does anyone know if it is considered an excused absence if I have plane tickets because it was previously not on the calendar? |
The state would approve a waiver, per contingency plan. No school system would set up a contingency plan that the state would veto. |
But you're putting the cart before the horse. The state can't approve a waiver until the school system applies for a waiver. And the school system presumably can't apply for a waiver a year ahead of time for in case there are snow days next year. So the best the school system can do is put the holidays in the contingency plan conditionally -- i.e., conditioned on the school system applying for a waiver and the state approving the waiver. |
It is not an excused absence. |
I'm sure it will be fine. I expect them to be very liberal toward absences on that Monday. How can they be otherwise when they've delivered a change-up at this late date? We won't be back from our trip until Monday afternoon. Sucks for us, the kids will have to make up any work covered that day. OK, whatever, we'll deal with it. But if anybody tries to give me grief about it being some kind of illegitimate absence, I will blow my top. |
So what happens if your child has an unexcused absence? Anything? |
In theory teachers do not have to let them makeup work..but I can't imagine that happening on that day. |
In some cases they are expelled. |
If the child has a HUGE number of unexcused absences, you can be prosecuted for truancy, but the number is large--we spent 3 weeks in Spain without going over it. |
PP's child will not be expelled for missing school on April 21. |
