Write a letter to oppose the waiver

Does everyone not see the "if we have 5 snow days, school gets out ___ date, if we miss 7 days school gets out ___ date.

Why is this even in place if MCPS never follows it, places waivers and leaves everyone in limbo until late April?? I honestly do not understand.

Either follow thru like you state you are going to or be like half the people here and make a new rule that "if it snows 5-25 days tough shit, we still get out on June 12th because adding on days is not important."

Why can other counties already add the days and make up missed time now yet we sit around and keep the stupid professional days and half days in place while requesting waivers. If the days won't matter at the end, then take our Spring Break days like other counties. Why can't MCPS get their act together? They seriously look like idiots.

I don't get this "MCPS should follow the rules!" argument. MCPS is following the rules. The rules say that the school district can apply for a waiver from the state, and the state can grant it or not grant it. MCPS will do what the state decides; thus, MCPS is following the rules.

I don't get this "MCPS should follow the rules!" argument. MCPS is following the rules. The rules say that the school district can apply for a waiver from the state, and the state can grant it or not grant it. MCPS will do what the state decides; thus, MCPS is following the rules.

They file a waiver every single year it goes over and every year, they don't add the days. Why have it put on the calendar? Obviously people don't listen and start camps, vacations etc.. the following week and are now whining and praying their gamble pays off. I do not want the waiver. I hope the kids and teachers are in school until June 20th. I want the 180 days of school our taxes are guaranteeing my kids get. Only in the government can you whine and get a rule taken away. It is not the real world. It is a shitty district and state.

I guess you haven't talked to your credit card or phone/cable/Internet company lately.

Why put it on the calendar? Because the rules say they have to. The same rules that also allow them to apply for a waiver and allow the state to grant a waiver. If you don't like those rules, work on getting them changed.

You do realize that if school is extended for a week the kids won't learn any additional material, right? Kids typically check out the Tuesday after Memorial Day and they essentially coast through the remaining weeks. They help the teacher clean the classroom, they do busy work, they watch videos, etc.

i do not want the waiver. kids do not check out unless the environment is run like the circus.

Yes. This I exactly why I am ticked off. If you are never going to go into another week without requesting a waiver why heck do you make it part of the plan? Either build in more snow days, say tough noogies, or make a plan that takes away professional days or half days etc. Oh and then to frown upon parents taking their kids out of school for vacation ...clearly kids can skip a week and be fine.

I thought in order to get the days waived the county had to prove that they tried everything possible to make up the days? How did MCPS try to make up the days? Other neighboring counties went to school on MLK, are going on an upcoming teacher work day and added 2 days to end of year and did not apply for a waiver is MD more lenient ?
