If the waiver is passed, no teacher or school should ever dock your child again for missing a day to go out of town for a family trip, wedding, etc. Apparently each and every day of school is not important. |
Sure. Are you coming to my office to volunteer for a day anytime soon? |
I am a teacher and the professional days could be taken away but under the contract, it is not an option.
|
There might be a difference between having a day of school that your child missed, and not having a day of school. |
No, the point is that the days don't matter despite the "fake" snow days schedule that imply they do until they become real. |
Yes, I understood your point. My point was that you're comparing apples and oranges. |
How realistic is it that the contract could be changed? I see districts all over NC and VA using professional days. In Wake County, NC (Raleigh), they are making up 6 missed days - 3 on professional days and 3 tacked added in June. They are not using I'm not pro waiver; but I don't think the optimal time for the make-up plan is June. Let it be during a workday. However, that'd still leave us several days short. |
My nieces and nephews have "blizzard packs", online/printout do at home work, released on days school is closed during the winter. This eliminates the requirement of making up days. This is their first year doing it this way (Ohio). I wonder if this will catch on? |
You obviously haven't lived in Montgomery County very long and don't understand the strength and power of the teacher's union. |
Its a shame we pay tax dollars for teachrrs to babysit and not teach. If I tune out of my job after Memorial weekend, I would be fired. But it appears sub standard teaxhers can just sit back and count the days? |
I like how you spell. Can you teach my kid? |

Two different people writing you here.... |
How did those letters work out for you folks? Personally, I'm thrilled that a week of vacation isn't going to be pulled from my child. I'm looking forward to spending extra quality family time with many authentic learning opportunities. I happen to think my child is getting a fabulous education in MCPS. |
The teachers do not set the deadline for when 4th quarter grades have to be submitted. The year's curriculum has to be completed before the 4th quarter grades are submitted. Your beef is with the administration, not the teachers. |
