Not really. There is a false notion on this forum that if you don't go to a IAC school you can't afford it. I doubt most Whitman families can't afford it. I doubt most Catholic school families can't afford it. It's a preference not an ability.

Oh bull. I doubt "most" Catholic families -- or any families -- can afford this.

Even in this affluent area, $100,000 a year AFTER taxes is more than most families can easily, comfortably spend on tuition for 3 kids. In fact, spending $100,000 a year (this year; tuition goes up 4 or 5% a year) is a crushing strain even for families where dad is a BigLaw partner. Go ahead, ask me how I know this!

Yes, there is a range of parents. But there are plenty of people who send their children to Blessed Sacrament because they like it and feel it is a good education.

Has Blessed Sacrament sent out letters to non-parishioners?

I have sent more than three children all the way through BS. Each child has had some great experiences and some bad experiences. Each child has had excellent teachers and mediocre teachers. The school has a terrific principal in Chris Kelly. He is open, reasonable and decisive (and yet not afraid to admit it when he's been wrong). My children were well-prepared for Catholic high school in most areas, and they were admitted to their first-choice schools. BS is a traditional school, and we placed our children there because we like the sense of community (the mix of DC transplants and third-generation graduates for parents). It's not for everyone. There are a few entitled elitist parents -- and the insularity is a decades-old joke -- but judging by the comments on this forum, there are not as many snobs at BS as there are at the independent schools that we Catholics clearly can't afford .

I find the anti-Catholic rhetoric on this thread and on another Gonzaga thread disturbing. It's shocking that people still feel these things and aren't afraid to say it (albeit on an anonymous forum).

Anyone turning down their spot at BS? What grade?

For Blessed Sacrament families - Where do most families live? I know the vast majority probably live in Chevy Chase (DC and MD), but do families also live in other parts of NW like Spring Valley, Kent, or Wesley Heights? Thanks!

There are a few AU Park families. I don't know of anyone in Spring Valley or Kent. There are also a handful of families who live East of RCP.

Best place to live if you are going to BS is Chevy Chase, DC, as many families live there. Few live in Spring Valley, Kent, or Wesley Heights. In face if you have a choice, I would live close to the school in Chevy Chase, DC or Forest Hills. It makes carpooling and walking home much easier.

You will be one of the few families living in SV, WH, or Kent from Blessed Sacrament and it makes logistics for you and child difficult. Forest Hills, Chevy Chase (DC), and even the neighborhoods off of Reno have close, as well as Barnaby Woods.

No, not really. Why would you want to live across town and have to go through traffic to live away from the school when there are so many nice homes near the school? You'll be the only BS family living in Spring Valley, Kent, etc… whereas near the school are lots of nice families that attend the school and there is a nice community feeling.
