The kids are doomed! |
Don't some Montgomery County public schools also use Saxon Math? |
It is on the list of preferred math programs put out by the group of university math professors against "fuzzy math" (ie EDM and the others). |
| Was that the same 1950s when the US was developing the space program? We don't seem to be doing that now and are way behind on STEM. I'm just sayin. |
If anyone is interested in evidence-based research on the effectiveness of Saxon Math or any other math program, the place to go is 'What Works Clearinghouse'...It's a great resource! http://ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/interventionreport.aspx?sid=447 |
| We are BS parishioners but don't send our kids to school there (much to Fr. Justin's distress). I have one with an IEP and they were very clear with is that they couldn't provide what my DC needed. We really wanted to go there but decided public was our best route. We are very pleased with our DCPS school but do sports on the BS teams. Parents are very friendly. Very inclusive of the non-BS school kids. Like typical parents we talk about schools a lot. They all seem good at BS. Maybe se grumbling at the older grades but we are experiencing that now at Deal too. The older kids we know have gone on to SJC. |
| Bump....First hand experience with children attending BS please... |
+1 |
Do you really expect people who have kids at BS to come on here and publicly state that the academics suck? The people I know that have kids there and that think so will usually only admit it (1) after a few cocktails and (2) only around close friends. I have one good friend in particular who is always telling me specific examples of how awful the academics and some of the teachers are, yet she'll sing its praises around some people (and probably on this board!). |
The academics are solid, and the staff is very supportive. I have one child who is academically advanced and a second who struggles with reading. One of the school reading specialists works with him three times a week and he's made tremendous strides in reading since September. We're very happy at the school. |
| If it is such a bad school, why do so many people want to go there? Went to the open house and it was packed with people. Hope we get accepted. |
| I'd like to know how it compares to the other archdiocese schools in terms of environment/kindness. |
Because people are misinformed. The academics are incredibly weak and outdated. |
That's a lot of "misinformed" people.
|
| It's misinformed people, plus a lot of new-money Catholics who want the prestige of sending thier kids to the wealthiest Catholic school in the Archdiocese. |
