DCPS can't handle 'Middle Schools'? This is why Kaya Henderson needs to go

Who is the person in charge of MS or the person in charge of strategic planning for MS?

How much longer should we be expected to stand around and let the middle school situation stagnate before marching on the Wilson building and demanding with a unified voice that someone take ownership and advance the ball in a meaningful way.

+1 - And what else can we do? I have written to my council member (no response) and a candidate for DC council. Trying to keep the conversation going with my neighbors and other parents that I know. I am signed up for a focus group in the future...

Start a website and take the fight to social media. Far out of my realm of expertise but it seemed to work for the Egyptians during the Arab Spring.

John Davis is one person responsible for middle school planning. iif he is still there at DCPS after some kind of drama earlier this year. There may be a few others. Will try to look it up.

Wait, what? Do you think single moms with 3+ kids will suddenly materialize when mayor funds low-income housing? These families are already here and in shelters (and schools). You are stirring up hate. Low-income housing made available in all neighborhoods will lift us all up.

For every unit of "affordable housing" (not "low-income housing") made available through new programs, four units are being eliminated. And you'll notice the term of art is no longer "low-income housing" or "public housing" but "affordable housing". What that means is that a good number of those units are reserved for families making around $60k a year.

It's only in the uninformed quasi-racist fantasies of some that DC is throwing huge amounts of money into free housing for "single moms with 3+ kids".

Thank you!!! Seriously, I have to check out of DCUM for a while for the sake of my blood pressure.

I agree with you. I read the above rant on single moms and almost burst into flames. My sister happens to be a single mom with 3 kids and works a full time job but is part of the working poor. She is very involved with her children and their education. Sadly, we live in a society where men are not forced to pay child support and women often get stuck in bad economic situations. It also doesn't help that women make $0.77 on the dollar that men make. You are a total asshole! Go pick on someone who deserves it... and it isn't single moms!
