You know what they say when you assume. I am not a Cluster two parent. Nor am I a Haycock parent. So no victimization here. I was just commenting on your need to overreact whenever a Cluster two parent (or not) makes any kind of coment about Haycock. If the tiara fits, wear it. |
So you basically have no stake in the school and really don't know what you're talking about. Thanks for contributing nothing of value to the thread. |
| The thread is about Chesterbrook and Haycock. I do have a stake in Chesterbrook. |
+1. |

Nevermind. I was just informed today that Haycock is not taking kids from Franklin Sherman or Chesterbrook next year for 4-6th grade.
God I hate this. How hard is it for them to make up their mind soon enough so that we can plan our life accordingly? Please let me know if you heard differently. |
| Louise Archer and Haycock are still closed to AAP transfers in the upper grades, except if you live in the base school boundary. At no point was that policy reversed, but many thought because of the Cluster 2 realignment that it would be. No one ever said that it would change, though. |
| i feel for you, OP!!!! In the end, you may be happier. |
| Choosing between Chesterbrook and Churchill is still lucky. |

OMG, is this post for real? I am a NP and we are considering moving to the Chesterbrook / Sherman / Haycock area from Alexandria City (our public elementary sucks), so I clicked on this link.
I cannot believe all the craziness on this thread about elementary school. Seriously? Haycock separates out the gifted kids from all the regular kids and they don't even have any extracurricular classes together like art or music? WTH? Is it like this is all of Fairfax County? Not to be naive, but this is all new to us, and I cannot believe some of the things I am reading about public elementary schools. The folks on the private school board are more respectful of each other. Do the distinctions about whether your kid was in Haycock GT or Chesterbrook GT really matter at age 8? Seriously, people, just realize how lucky you are to live in good school districts. Our property taxes just went up by $50k this year in alexandria, city, and our publics suck! |

PP, if you are new to Fairfax County, please visit the FCPS website. It has a wealth of information and you can learn lots more there than from an anonymous forum that does not represent a majority of FCPS parents.
Please educate yourself about AAP before you feel the need to bash it and reprimand us. It is a longstanding part of FCPS ( with one name or another) and is a reason many people choose FCPS and many businesses therefore choose Fairfax County. There is much academic research to support its existence. |
You couldn't tell from DCUM, but that's how most people in Fairfax feel as well. Don't live in the Haycock district, but drive by in the morning some times on the way to Metro. Apart from the fact that the kiss-and-drop backs up traffic on Westmoreland, it's a nice place to drive by. Lots of diversity, lots of parents walking happy-looking kids to school in the AM, often with younger brothers and sisters in tow. Chesterbrook and Sherman aren't as crowded, but have a very nice vibe as well. |
GT Chesterbrook vs GT Haycock is more about which kids go. If your child's friends are staying vs if your child's friends are going. Or because an older sibling is already at Haycock. Both are excellent programs. |
