PP: would your response have been the same if OP decided on Key?? Sounds like your DS is on the Beauvoir wait list. |
|
Fair enough. DC in NW public. Considering applying to independent schools next year and got pulled in. Just seems like unnecessary bashing on public which somehow feels orchestrated. Just annoyed, but my fault for paying attention. I would love to consider Beauvoir next year, but won't start a similar thread if I'm lucky to have a choice since it will give too many people the chance to bash. |
Methinks the OP wasn't ever really going to chose Key. She sounds too smug about Beauvoir. Looking forward to a few years from now when some well connected, great kid from Key gets into STA and she is looking for real advice about her option #2 vs. option #3. OP you sound like a p.i.t.a. |
Nonsense. The OP came off as very up front. She is obviously stepping into it knowing it will mean some financial sacrifice. Couldn't you be a little nice.... Congrat's ,OP ! |
Key - my friend's kids love it there. |
Nope b/c she dragged Key through the mud, knowingly or not, for 8 pages when I doubt she really ever wanted her kid to go to the school. Sleazy. |
You are crazy PP. Key was never dragged through the mud. Your statement reveals more about your own defensiveness and hypersensitivity about Key (DCPS?) than anything OP or anyone else said. These are your own prejudices PP. Had OP interchanged Sidwell for Key I am certain you would not have said a thing. Again- your issues PP and yours alone. |
STA looses a fair number of boys because they are ill-prepared at Beauvoir. I'd go with Key. |
Congrats OP! We were in this spot a few years ago. We went with Beauvoir. We absolutely love it there. |
What ?? No one " dragged Key through the mud" . What a baseless claim. PP's over 8 pages shared their experience with exmissions from Key, praised the school overall, but there was a debate about whether exmissions were painless, or well, familes ended up moving so kids who did not get in anywhere they liked could go to a good Public HS down the line. That's not "dragging through mud" that's truth telling. PP's shared their personal experience and all the OP did was have the good grace to come back and share her choice. |
Nonsense. signed parent of a Beauvoir 3rd grader who missed 4 questions total on the entire 3rd grade ERB without one minute of outside instruction or prep. ( was at Beauvoir since Pre-K) |
Not to revive this thread after the OP has made her decision, but the one thing that I didn't see anyone mention (but I didn't read the board all that carefully) is that the PP already has decided when her child is what, 4, that she wants him to go to STA. I have a 4-year-old and an older child, and I honestly can say that I have no clue where they will end up in 3rd, 4th, 7th, or whatever grade. I assumed that our kids would go to single sex schools, as both my DH and I did, and we both had great experiences, but as I watch my kids grow up, I realize that it might not be what is best for them, or maybe it will be, but it's too soon to tell. I'm sure STA is a great school and we'll probably consider it for our DS, but I sure hope that OP is picking B over Key because she thinks STA might be a great choice for him, instead of selecting it for him now. I went to a big 3. Perhaps my kids (well, one of them) will go there, and perhaps not. I used to care, but I really don't. And, as my kids get older, I'm actually leaning away from my school, as I don't want my kids to have the pressure cooker middle school/high school experience that I experienced. I haven't quite figured out the alternative, but I have at least two years before I need to think about it, so I try to ignore thinking about it whenever possible. |
To answer OP, definitely Beauvoir, although you have probably already made your decision by now. We are very happy there. Best of luck to you! |
Following up on this again - same poster - I am saying definitely Beauvoir if you are dead set on STA, as most Beauvoir boys do continue onto STA. Key though is a great school as well but just looking at numbers, not nearly as high of a percentage of boys go to STA from Key as they do from Beauvoir. It is still possible though. Do what is best for your family. |
