It matters less where your kids go to school if you make the decision to give them what they need at home and consider school a complimentary activity. Be resourceful- if you think Beauvoir rocks, look at Beauvoir's website and pull down the class reading lists, check out the teacher blogs and see what they do in class. How are they structuring science experiments on a field trip to the park? What math are they teaching? Then duplicate that stuff at home. These teachers these days pretty much put their classrooms online, you can see how they give the Beauvoir kids a better education than an average DCPS teacher and do it yourself. Its not rocket science to turn out a smart, thoughtful kid, capable of getting in to Harvard or some such place. Isn't *that* the end game? Be an educator/parent and you've won, wherever your kid goes to school. That's what really separates kids anyway- it isn't race or school, its socioeconomics and resourceful parenting. Who's reading to their kids at infancy? Who's teaching at home? Who's playing NPR in the car on the way to school in the morning? just saying.
