I think Hyattsville, University Park and College Park are the exemptions to “PG” county. Maybe even Bowie or parts of Upper Marlboro.

When I think of areas to stay away from in PG county it’s Landover, Suitland, District and Capitol Heights etc. where there’s more proverty and less edcucated.

The commute into DC is too long, and that's where I work.

It depends on where you live and where you work. I live in PGC and work in DC and it takes me 20-40 minutes tops.

Even the nicest clusters of pretty streets are very close to very dumpy places.
Of course, millions of Americans live in neighborhoods like that but this is a deal breaker for a lot of people on DCUM.

My block here in PGC has APIs, Latinos, and Whites, but few African Americans. All are college educated and almost all the houses have at least one person with a graduate degree. I know of at least 5 individuals with PhDs on my one short block. The kids of my neighbors seem to mainly be enrolled in top and second tier colleges, and the younger ones are at the "test-in" schools or at UP Elementary. One set of friends have their child at the Friends Community School, which looks fabulous. Most people in my circle in DC belonged to the PG Pool, and now it's even closer for those times when we want to hang out there. As for restaurants, back in Brookland we had to travel out to PGC for dinner unless we wanted to deal with the awful traffic and parking involved with dining out in DC. A few days ago I was in my old neighborhood for the first time in at least a month and it hit me how much grittier it is than my current location and what a step up in daily life I made by moving here. Although I could have afforded to stay in my DC house, the relative difference in housing costs here in PGC (for a nicer house) is even more enjoyable than I had imagined. Having all that extra disposable income every month is awesome. And as a homeowner and high income earner, it's absolutely wonderful to not have to deal with the inept DC Government anymore, especially the DC Office of Tax & Revenue and the DCRA.

Just FYI, there are now a ton of restaurants in Brookland. From brew pubs to fine dining.

I have lived in PG for five years, in Lanham, and I have had 0 experiences with crime. I think some kids rang our doorbell once but that's it. Crime has decreased 50% in the last five years, which is a big deal. Police are very responsive and polite in our area and are very active on next door.

PG looks and feels like an area shit on for 100 years due to systemic racism. Neglected and 2nd class status isn’t something most people want to volunteer for. Might be wrong but it is what it is. The little that is there is there because it is cheap, as with most things in life you get what you pay for.

Lots of crime, poverty, and poor schools. I'm not really tied to this region so I would simply move to a lower cost of living area where I could afford a nice neighborhood rather than live in PG.

I am not one to shit on PG County. I think there are very nice parts, but I prefer DC. If you went to PG for dining, you don't expect much from your dining experience. I live in Brookland. We probably have more and better choices than you. I mean, if you love Applebee's then I can't do anything with that.

This is an ultra wealthy area. PG would be one of the prized counties in most of Va. NC, SC , Ga .

This area doesn't know how bad those areas suck. One of the things that makes Md great is how wealthy and concentrated the wealth is. PG is the richest minority county in the US.

PG for all its faults still has
1) a B1G ten university with the 8th highest sat scores of all publics
2) the national archives
3) the national weather prediction facility
4) Andrews Airforce Base
5) the Census Bureau.
6) homeland Security
7) the secret service
8) FDA
9) USDA
10) NASA
11) nationally famous Dematha Catholic
12) an NFL stadium and team.


Better than just about 90 percent of all counties nationwide.
