I blame Adam Lanza's mother.

Thank you for posting this. My FIL has had several strokes, still has at least a .357 in his home, and sadly I had never given this any thought until these events. Spoke to my husband today and he and his firefighter BIL are going to make sure that all the ammunition is out of the guns and the home. FIL cannot drive anymore and cannot use a computer, so there is no chance of him obtaining any more.

Get the gun out of the house, as my grandmother did. Please.

I feel the same way. Not only did he have guns, but they say tht he taught him how to shoot.

Lanza's mother did NOT work at the school. At all. Here's a scenario: Lanza's mother might have been having an affair with a man who had a child at the school. The shooter went there with the intent to kill that child. There has to be some sort angle like this. Why would he drive to the school to just kill random kids? If he did, this is so much horrible in it's randomness. This was a rich divorcee. Who taught her boys to shoot assault weapons--there has to be more to this story.

The point of the blame game is to try to prevent future tragedies. People try to blame the convenient culprit, guns. But if people took responsibility for themselves, their families, and their neighborhood, tragedies could be averted.

I know every one of my neighbors in my one block radius. Bet you anything not one of them is a terrorist. I can also tell you that none of my kids or neighbors kids will kill people. Why? Because I, and people in my family and neighborhood have awareness.

Nearly Every one of these recent tragedies could have been avoided, such as that batman killer guy, because the signs were there-people didnt act on the signs.

I believe a good approach would be to hold parents accountable up to a certain age. Remember that kid from bethesda who was making bombs in his garage or something? i seem to recall the parents were held accountable. (Though cant recall the details.). This is a good start. Would be more effective than gun control.

You're a dangerous moron who thinks he can read other's minds, that much is true. People are capable of almost anything. Germans in the 1930's knew their neighbors in a one block radius, too.

Blame the mother.....Blame God for waking him up.....Blame the gun lobbyists.....hell, blame the car for starting up and allowing him to drive to the school.....but after we find out where the blame lies, what good does it do for the slain? Unless of course Back To The Future is based on a true story

Name calling isn't going to help. I assume your the parent whose daughter is having lots of premarital sex and your son will kill people because you obviously lack any ability at learning about others.

Anyway, I hope that most avid gun owners would be humble enough to understand that when they have a nutty family member that they will have to give up their guns.

Here here. Now she was some survivalist crazy worried about the country and economic collapses. Nutty nutty nutz

Gun collecting, home schooling mom who got killed with her own gun. Adam Lanza was apparently home schooled for parts of his education. Great thing for someone with terrible social skills, keeping him home away from other kids...

This thread would make sense if she were alive.
She's dead.
Plus, we do not know the facts.

How was Aurora preventable? His parents lived in California. His therapist expressed concerned to the school, but they couldn't monitor him 24/7.

I would love to find ways to prevent these massacres, but I'm not finding anything constructive in the suggestion that we hold parents accountable. This happened around Columbine. Until parents can read their children's minds, they are at a disadvantage.

By banning assault weapons after the Gabrielle Giffords shooting?

And this one could have been prevented by banning assault weapons after Columbine.

Sadly, I don't think there is hope for gun control laws. Too many trigger-happy 'patriots'.

NY Post - and I am fully aware that it's not too credible of a source, but still -quotes one neighbor as saying that the rich divorcee was a 'gun enthusiast' who took her sons to shooting ranges herself, and taught them how to use guns herself.

The more that comes out, the worse she looks.
www.washingtonpost.com/local/newtown-school-shooters-mother-collected-guns-was-loath-to-let-people-inside-home/2012/12/15/d89c2732-4706-11e2-8061-253bccfc7532_story.html?hpid=z3

And this choice quote from the SIL, typical of the delusion of so many gun owners (not saying SIL's a gun owner, just that this is unfortunately an all too popular delusion that has been proven wrong too many times):

Her former sister-in law, Marsha Lanza, told the Chicago Sun-Times outside her home in Crystal Lake, Ill., that Nancy Lanza wanted guns for protection. “She prepared for the worst,” Marsha Lanza told the newspaper. “I didn’t know that they [the guns] would be used on her.”
