McLean is no Scarsdale. And Arlington is not Queens, not even close. Maybe Forest Hills in Queens, but Arlington is not nearly as congested.

BOOM. Now sit down and shut up.

You were comparing Woodlawn to TJ, not to McLean.

TJ average SAT: 2184; Woodlawn average SAT: 1827

McLean average SAT 1772; Yorktown average SAT: 1724

US News: schools that McLean students attend are ## 3, 4 and 6 in the state. Arlington schools are MIA.

McLean schools > Arlington schools. How's that spelling lesson coming along?

You're right. McLean has a lower unemployment rate than Scarsdale. Arlington wishes it looked like Forest Hills. It's more like a cross between Jamaica and Ozone Park.

Scarsdale is beautiful. McLean not so much.

The reality is that the DC suburbs don't compare to the suburbs in the old Northeast cities. Not in terms of looks anyway. Neither Arlington nor McLean are beautiful. But they have their attractive parts.

2012 National Merit Semifinalists:

Schools McLean students attend: Langley (13), McLean (11), Marshall (8)

Schools Arlington students attend: W-L (8), Yorktown (7), Wakefield (0)

And that excludes TJ, which more McLean than Arlington students attend. Double snap.

I love the old tudor and colonial homes in Scarsdale. But McLean has more newer homes than Scarsdale that are gorgeous.

Meanwhile, in Arlington, you can feast your eyes on this: http://franklymls.com/AR7906816 (grabbing barf bag).

Has anyone living in Arlington or McLean been convinced yet theirs is inferior? What a pointless thread...

I've lived in both Arlington and McLean and am much happier in McLean.

This became the predictable pissing contest when the Arlington poster claimed the "quality of life" there was better, rather than acknowledge that each has pros and cons.

Stop with U.S News. It's not credible.

The comparison for SAT isn't Woodlawn to TJ, it's Woodlawn to McLean. For starters, Woodlawn isn't a STEM school. It's equally is DESIRABLE as TJ, but it's not a STEM school.

And, since you're comparing McLean to Yorktown, the Woodlawn scores matter because they don't factor into the Yorktown scores, even though a significant proportion of Woodlawn kids get their diploma from Yorktown. I know it's hard for you to keep up, but please try.

As for the spelling error. I'm absolutely devastated that you gutted my argument by fixating on a single misspelled word in an Internet chat posting. DEVASTATED. You convinced everyone, didn't you?

Got it. Woodlawn isn't a STEM school. It's a DESIR(E)ABLE school!

You should stop now. TJ comes out ahead of Woodlawn, and Langley and McLean come out ahead of Yorktown. Add back the scores of the TJ students who live in the Langley and McLean districts to those schools, and the Woodlawn students who live in the Yorktown district back to Yorktown, and TJ, Langley and McLean still come out ahead.

And what's the deal with the National Merit Semifinalists? None were reported in the press for Woodlawn. Was Woodlawn overlooked, or did it have no NMSFs, or were they reported in the (lower) numbers for the other Arlington schools?

P.S. - I do know this is pointless, but some Arlington people are consistently full of crap, and at least this keeps them from crapping on TC Williams 24/7 like they do in every other thread.

Anonymous wrote:(PP here) Why are you being so cagey about the information? For some of us with kids in the AAP center, whose school information is incorrect in what you cited, this is very important. I have a child who is well established in the center.

All current kids would be grandfathered IF the first recommendation of the task force actually gets implemented. The task force is gathering community feedback so nothing is close to being implemented yet.

How do I find the proposals and give my feedback? I searches the FCPS website and found nothing on this. I also did a google search and came up empty handed.

Jesus Christ, how many battles are you waging? You're going to attempt to make a false case for the superiority of McLean schools in honor of TC Williams? The hell? If you like TC so much, move to Alexandria.

22 National Merit semifinalists from Arlington, BTW. Including Woodlawn.

Whatever.
