Why do beautiful people have ugly babies?

So glad that someone posted on this, because I've always secretly thought that both Jessica Alba's daughter Honor, and Alessandra Ambrosio's daughter Anya, had the most... 'unfortunate' looks. I mean, both seem like really sweet, sweet girls, but are miles away from being attractive or beautiful (IMHO.) Cindy Crawford's children on the other hand? Wow!

The boy is extremely attractive; the girl has eyes too close together.

Patrick Schwarzenegger is unbelievably attractive.

Very true, which is good for him since I've always thought his mother to be a bit on the unattractive side.

I like the theory that the features that make an adult noteworthy are disastrous on a baby or small child. I have a friend who is a straight-up knockout, and her daughter, who looks EXACTLY like her (as if there was no dad, I swear) is, bless her heart, the ugliest child I've ever seen.

My friend is also smart and funny and sure of herself, so I feel sure that she will bring that duckling up to be as amazing a swan as she is.

Not really. I have never watched the show, but when Duggars got mentioned here, I googled "Duggars" and got all their pictures with names.

Both of my boys were born looking like gargoyles. I laughed under my breath at the nurses who said either of them were adorable. I just chalked it up to being part of their job description to like all manner of babies. They were both skinny newborns so I really believe that the chubbiness was their salvation until they grew into their looks. In our case, they didn't have that luxury of plumpness until my milk came in and they filled out.

(For what it's worth: they are both extremely handsome now. The uglier of the two ended up to become stopped-on-the-street-by-strangers handsome. I'm only bragging because this is anonymous. I'm blushing just typing things that make me sound like I'm giving myself a big ol' high five.)
