| Gosh, so heartbreaking about Thomas and Daisy, and of course poor Matthew. Earlier in the episode, I found it saddening/touching the way Lord Grantham restrained himself, the expression and the look in his eyes, when he was about to say something more to Mary, as she was preparing to go visit Matthew for the first time the hospital... |
| (PP here ... sorry, first time in the hospital...) |
I wonder if she is part of the movement of New York/Northeasterner heiresses to the industrial age Captains of Industry, who could not find suitable mates in the U.S. (as dramatized in such bodice rippers as "The Buccaneers") ? |
| Thank you OP, for alerting me to this series! I have watched both seasons now and cannot wait for the third, I'm hooked. |
Yes, I think that's right (see also "Daisy Miller") and below, a letter from Julian Fellowes on this point: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/25/opinion/downton-fans-the-writer-julian-fellowes-suggests-a-book-for-you.html?scp=1&sq=julian%20fellowes&st=cse |

SPOILERS
I find this season much more compelling and interesting than season 1 (which I liked well enough). I do feel like a puppet whose emotions are easily manipulated--obviously they want us to hate Thomas, yearn to see Anna and Mr. Bates together, and feel heartbroken when William dies. |
PBS edited it very shabbily--they took a lot of heat for it--the british version on British ITunes is supposedly so much better. |
| Sybill is smokin' hot. For a brit that is. |
Lol. drum can be so awesome. This thread is making me very happy. |
I can't figure out why Cora (McGovern) is morphing into Carol Channing when she talks. Is she just hammered? |
| Hee! Funny. Cora has become one of my least favorite characters lately. She was downright rude to Cousin Isabelle. |
Agree. Can't stand her now. She seems to have changed since season 1. |
YES! |
IDK, I thought Cousin Isabelle was overstepping her boundaries and that's why Cora responded to her so coldly. |
| I think Isabelle was being rude too...they both were. I just felt Cora was more aggressive about it. I felt a bit more sympathy for Isabelle's bad behavior because of her anxiety over Matthew, too. |
