SFH in Arlington with good schools for 600K - does it exist?

I'm with OP, anyway--I would much rather live in a boring house in a convenient, family-friendly, metro-accessible, walkable area with good schools than in a picture-perfect house in a boring place.

Hey, let's not be slamming Ashburn here (*) (**), many of DCUMers will be living there someday. Plus, it's only 10 miles from me, which means all of you can bask slightly in my awesomeness.

*See, if I were shallowly interested in boosting my own property values, I'd be boosting Leesburg. But I'm not. I'm even offering to help make sure each and every one of you can get their place in Ashburn, then ensure the drawbridge is closed right after you get here!

**The optional Purcellville/Hamilton upgrade is there. However, if you're a Democrat, I really recommend staying closeted except when you rant about newcomers to the county.

***Can someone familiar with both sides of the river translate this into Frederick for those unable to live in VA?

I just love this house. With new shutters it could be stunning and the schools are great:

It's very roomy and pretty nice on the inside, but the outside just isn't very attractive. And while the lot is big, it's kind of weird, and downward-sloping toward the house. (which can cause drainage/water issues.) Good neighborhood, though.

Agree with this, although I don't think the inside is that great, except for the kitchen. I also think the lack of a level back yard is a problem, especially for people with kids who might want room to play. Looks like a short sale, too. They bought it in 2008 for $975,000.

Ok, "stunning" is taking things a bit far. That house would need more than shutters to be stunning. A viable option, yes, but not stunning!

The entry door seems to be oddly off center..

Don't argue with the seller.

If it's so stunning, why are there no pics?

Here's another beauty under 600K. Who said you can't have it all in Arlington?

Or maybe it was "have it small"?

these are some of the ugliest houses I have ever seen. I welcome the narrow mcmansions to tear down these horrid eye sores.

This is MUCH better IMO

It's been on the market for over a year so it's obviously overpriced.

I think the OP of this house was being sarcastic. Yes, there are some ugly houses in Arlington, just like there are ugly houses everywhere. But like many people have said, location is key and the schools for the most part are outstanding....

I'm just curious, pp... were you born nasty or is this a learned character defect?

I think few people would agree with your assessment on the schools.

With everything I see here (in person and the links above), I'm shocked there aren't more "Curb Appeal" episodes in the DMV. We need help, bad!!!

Here's the house for sale in Arlington Heights. It's 649,900 which is more than I thought it would be. I think it could use a paint job and some other touches outside to make it cuter, but I think it has potential. The kitchen is also too modern for my taste, however, I really like the family room addition with the bookshelves.
