SFH in Arlington with good schools for 600K - does it exist?

18:39 is cute, but 650K in the Wakefield pyramid? We are looking to move to Arlington on a similar budget and I personally would take a smaller house in a better school pyramid.

She will have to make some compromises. Maybe you can afford more or would choose different but this is not your thread. I'm with OP, anyway--I would much rather live in a boring house in a convenient, family-friendly, metro-accessible, walkable area with good schools than in a picture-perfect house in a boring place.

Hey, let's not be slamming Ashburn here (*) (**), many of DCUMers will be living there someday. Plus, it's only 10 miles from me, which means all of you can bask slightly in my awesomeness.

*See, if I were shallowly interested in boosting my own property values, I'd be boosting Leesburg. But I'm not. I'm even offering to help make sure each and every one of you can get their place in Ashburn, then ensure the drawbridge is closed right after you get here!

**The optional Purcellville/Hamilton upgrade is there. However, if you're a Democrat, I really recommend staying closeted except when you rant about newcomers to the county.

***Can someone familiar with both sides of the river translate this into Frederick for those unable to live in VA?

I'm just curious, pp... were you born nasty or is this a learned character defect?

Sorry, it's just too much Applebee's clogging my arteries, so I guess it's learned. That and having to drive my Hummer everywhere.

I also asked the PP who's slamming the okay-looking houses in North Arlington about houses s/he actually does like. Doesn't that count for something?

Like 14:11, where does s/he live since that house is just too small for her expansive needs?

That Jackson Street (arlington heights) house is cute and nicely renovated, and the neighborhood's pretty good and close-in. Henry is one of the more truly diverse schools in South Arlington. (i.e. it's not 80% of one race, but more mixed.) I don't know if I'd pay $650K to live in South Arlington, though - you might have issues with resale.

This one has a little more character. Great location/schools. I would have considered this when I was looking (ended up spending a lot more then $615!)

Did someone glue a double-wide to the top of a rambler here?

Looks like a contract fell through last year as well. I wonder what happened.

That house is in a great location and has a HUGE backyard (by Arlington standards). It's close to Lee/Harrison shopping and is in a good school pyramid. I'm surprised it's priced so low in fact.

8:34 again - this is the house I was referring to. Great price and great location.

Oh purveyor of aesthetics, what sort of house do YOU like?

Hideous. Just hideous. That house either should have been left alone or torn down. I couldn't stand having to look at such an ugly house on my block.

seriously, what is wrong with this house? It looks like almost every colonial built in the burbs in the 60s and 70s, with the brick on the bottom level and the siding on the top. I think the inside is nice too. I think they may have OVERimproved on the inside - I wonder how many bedrooms it was originally? I probably would have made it a 4 bedroom.

Seriously? It's a just a regular normal house. Nothing fancy, some nice improvements. Like 70% of the houses in the area. This is a thread from someone seeing if there is a 3-bedroom, $600K house in N Arlington. She obviously isn't looking for a totally torn-down, re-built house. Get a grip.

I get the Redfin alerts, just searched my email. It was listed in March for $725,000, dropped a week later to $699,000. Then October for $615,000, so that is when the contract must have fallen through....
