Do Students Run the Show at Sidwell Upper School?

Why would anyone read as poster said,"most of the threads about Sidwell over the past few months" and be bragging about the stats of their soccer team unless they were a Sidwell parent??

If you are bored, don't read and don't respond . It is , after all, the best way to see that the thread drops to the next page.
I'm also not from Sidwell and I've been offended by the nastiness and myopia of the football thread, so I'm not surprised that other fair-minded people have felt likewise. I agree I am contributing in part to the problem by posting at all in response, but when there are no contrary posts people say things like "oh see, there is no defense for Sidwell sports.". It does appear to be a few people churning an immense number of posts, though, and the overall phenomenon seems similar to the explosion of Landon posts when there was that "perfect storm" last spring. Noone here is talking about football, who cares about football. This is about a hate filled rant written by a senior boy at Sidwell in which his female classmates were described as whores, were described in detail giving blow jobs in the parking garage, on and on. When this little darling wasn't aloud to read this"poem" in the Quaker Meeting as is the tradition before Winter break he printed it in hard copy so that the entire school could read about these girls he had targeted. Angry at being rebuffed, he organized his friends to throw things at the Head of School, the US School Principal, teachers, etc....

Can anyone with actual first-hand knowledge confirm or refute this description? I've got no connection to this high school, so I have no idea.

I've read the thread from the beginning, and it's starting to sound like a game of "telephone" where the tale grows in the telling. OP's telling sounded ugly, but now you seem to be portraying it in even more negative terms. Now it's a "rant" with "in detail" descriptions of sex acts that "target" girls. And the writer is so angry that he's supposedly organized some sort of physical assault on the entire administration. That seems to be quite an expansion from OP's description, and I suspect an exaggeration. And the only semi-confirmation I've seen (on page 1 of this thread) seems to suggest that while the person who wrote the poem was out-of-line, the school admin blocked the poem from being read, and likely will discipline the student.

If the poem is half as nasty as is being described here, the student who distributed it certainly deserves to be disciplined. So I wouldn't apologize for him (or her?). But let's keep this in perspective -- I've seem plenty of posts on DCUM where all us sensitive and concerned parents of school children are calling each other names far worse than "whore," and I suspect any teenager you know has called people far worse names. And the sex acts people describe on DCUM regularly cause me to lower my computer screen for fear that someone might see me read them. It seems quite hypocritical for people here to play the morals card now.

To repeat, I'm not excusing the behavior. If it happened at school, then the school should react; and if it were my child, there would be some pretty severe discipline at home. But I'm failing to see how this is a "stop the presses!" story.

Wow wow wow wow wow.
GDS Senior here. I have many good friends in the current senior class at Sidwell, and I know a lot more about this little "scandal" than any of you do, guaranteed. The amount of misinformation being thrown around as fact here is horrifying. If you all are actually parents in DC and not just a few trolls with sock puppets, then you need to figure your shit out. No normal person should be so obsessed with finding dirt on a high school. I've seen some stuff written about GDS too, and most of it's just completely wrong. This is seriously creepy and weird. I'm more or less speechless; it's hard to explain how bizarre this is from a teenager's perspective, but know that if your kids knew about your multi-paragraph rants bashing young teens and their alleged actions, they'd be freaked out too.

ITA. The constant barrage of anti-Sidwell posts is obnoxious and offensive, in the same way that the Landon posts were. And I wasn't around DCUM during the Beauvoir-Toth situation, but that seemed just as ridiculous. It's creepy how obsessed some of these people are.

Please. There is no "anti-Sidwell" lynch mob here. People are decrying the school's lack of action as well as the "circle the wagons" mentality the Sidwell parents seemingly have. If Landon is called out for bad behavior (which is more than fair) then why is Sidwell exempt?

Does anybody here know somebody at either the Washington Post or Washingtonian Magazine? Something needs to be done about this Sidwell coverup.

We don't know one way or the other what Sidwell will do--all of this happened as school was ending for break. Moreover, I believe schools are required to keep disciplinary decisions private, so the DCUM readers might not hear what happens. The world will not end.

What is creepy is that you as a teenager are on a site called"DC Urban Moms" , trolling. It may not occur to you because all the hard work was done generations before you were born, but there are a lot of women in this town, who are not just mothers but Senators, CEO's , advisers to PODUS, Ambassadors who are highly offended that our daughters or daughters of our friends or the girl across the street have been crassly objectified by this self-important 18 year old boy. Seems a lesson is in order. Any takers.

PODUS = President of Da United States?

I don't know. Axe the poster who used the acronym.
Should the child be denied an education? Is your answer going to be to throw him into the public school system? Another way to look at it is that Sidwell had a different environment that the child might respond to. But anyway, where is that child now? Is he a drug dealer or a functioning part of society? Just curious.
Uh, you maybe should have googled that one before hand.

Please re-read the thread. It is not "one boy"--the poem was a group effort, by all accounts, and the authors included girls. It is sad but true that girls can be as harsh or harsher than boys in this type of thing; read the recent NY Times article on cyber-bullying for examples of vicious invective by girls about other girls. Hopefully the school will try to educate boys and girls alike as to why the poem was offensive and not funny in the least.

It seems when people lack a response to content they pick at typos. Are there no women out there on this forum who care at all that these 14, 15 year year old girls have been horribly objectified and they have to somehow go back to school in another 10 day s or so. Can you imagine facing that at 14 ? Your reflexive defensiveness about "your school" and the "good ol' boy in question is a bit out of place, no?

Jesus, adults on this site are creepy, seriously.

The attempt to cover up this incident mirrors the Landon parents' reaction to the numerous incidents of bad behavior among their student body.
