Are service academies super competitive?

Just an FYI- if you live in DC it’s very competitive, especially for USNA. My DC who graduated from a private school in recent years was denied.

I find this very hard to believe (very competitive). Especially in 2026, no UMC people want their kid to go to the service academies, with the current C-i-C.

This is not proof it is very competitive.

Each year SJC sends several students to the service academies. Usually at least 5 students each year attend (and some years more). In recent years each class has sent at least one student to the USNA. In my daughter’s year, 2 went to the USNA.

In DC (not "the DMV," but the actual District of Columbia), most years, it's pretty competitive to get a Naval Academy nom (figure maybe 10-15 credible candidates for 5 noms), but there usually are more than enough noms to go around for the other academies, even West Point.

You’re trying to make it sound like it’s Trump who is keeping UMC kids from going to the academies.

But the truth is that in most areas of the country, UMC people tend to think they are too good for the military regardless of who is in the White House.
