Pride flags at DC United games

Legalizing burglary wouldn’t bother me because I choose not to burgle. We should allow all behaviors and actions because people can just choose not to do them.

It’s just a flag. It’s not half naked gay people running around.

OP - I've wondered about this in other instances. Many local businesses have pride flags in the windows, as I'm sure you'll have noticed. Private schools have pride flags all over the place. Certain churches too.

It has been a puzzle to me. Seems rather silly and unnecessary.

I have to think it's because the people who run all these places think it's a good business move. They must think the signal of how pro-LGBT they are, will translate into more business or churchgoers, or whatever.

I believe it's a local business phenomenon, so you don't see this as much with national businesses, which would include NBA/MLB teams, etc. Or Chopt, Papa John's.

No, just behaviors and actions between consenting adults. When two consenting adults kiss, no one is being burgled. You just like telling other people how to live. Try turning the other cheek.

We tell adults how to live all the time in this country even when the conduct doesn’t directly affect anyone else.

Must wear a seatbelt to drive.
Must pay taxes for illegal wars.
Must not do hard drugs.

Your examples all have societal costs. I don't want my health insurance to go up because you had a traumatic brain injury after stupidly not wearing a seatbelt or sniffing glue. Given the high medical costs of pregnancy, so does heterosexual sex. Maybe we should ban that too?

It’s just a symbol and businesses show all kinds of other symbols that you are fine with. I see NFL team flags, college flags, US flags, other country’s flags, signed sports jerseys, anti cancer, girls scouts, little league, religious and military symbols at bars, restaurants, pizza and barber shops. None of those seem to bother anyone. Maybe we’re just used to them. But a colorful rainbow flag is over the line and silly?

Cheering on the Capitals in public with a Caps flag is a little different than celebrating driving the wrong way on an exit-only ramp. Certain aspects of life whether hetero or homo sexual do not need to be celebrated, either in public or in private, and certainly not at sporting events.

Why does the NFL celebrate the use of American military power with military flyovers at games and having a military color guard engage in jingoistic displays of patriotism before games? And running an entire “Salute to Service” campaign?

Why does the NFL celebrate the conquest and elimination of the Wampanoag and mock their generosity by having games on “Thanksgiving” and having players eat turkey after the games?

Why do the NFL and college football celebrate the objectification of women with scantily clad dancers on the sidelines and cameramen leeringly holding long shots focused on coeds? Why are they inviting a divisive president to the Superbowl and high-profile college games and giving him a platform?

Why does the NFL celebrate first responders when the police are killing unarmed black men with impunity and federal agents are executing American citizens on the streets for protesting?

Why are people waiving all these red-white-and-blue flags at sporting events and blocking my view?

Why are all these politics being injected into sporting events? I just want to go and enjoy the game. Can’t we just focus on the football? Why do we need all these flags and military celebrations?

Ok folks. We understand the business aspects of why the Spirit and DC United has flags.

At this juncture, you will either support them or not.

Any additional commentary should be taken to the political section as this is no longer about soccer.
