| 2019 Nats won the World Series with no Pride flags. Caps won Lord Stanley’s Cup with no flags. DCUnited won MLS Cups with no pride flags. Go buy a rainbow bumper sticker, leave your car in the lot and then go cheer on your team. |
| I hate to point out the obvious but… isn’t there a reason there is more 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ at Spirit games? Isn’t it similar to why you see more of it in the WNBA? |
The 1937 Yankees won the World Series with an all-white roster but I don’t think that means we should go back to Jim Crow laws and segregation. If having to see a few rainbow flags is so upsetting to you you are truly the definition of a snowflake. ❄️ |
| Does “I’m going to watch a soccer match I have to be extra gay tonight” happen at other MLS stadiums? |
Some, I’ve seen it on tv a few times. It’s more of an NWSL thing, it gives them a place they feel is safe and belong. Which is fine. Think of any major sports team college or pro, people who are fans just associate themselves with that team, ball knowledge or not, it’s not always about ball it’s sometimes about the people. Anyways, let’s see how this thread roasts me. |
Oh yes, it is quite a complicated game, kick the ball into their net, keep it out of yours, don't use your hands. Of course I played defense, maybe offense is more nuanced. |
Why not just ask if the pride stuff is bigger with women's sports? But first maybe take a look at the thread title. |
A while back a number of people who lived in the apartments across from Nationals Park started putting up Trump signs. Which was obviously very distressing, so they were made to take them down. |
|
This isn’t that difficult. There are far more out gay players in the NWSL, and the people making these decisions value inclusivity and fans feeling accepted and safe.
Why don’t you see that at hockey games or football games? Because despite the fan fic of Heated Rivalry, homophobia runs rampant in the NHL and NFL, which, duh. Of course a more recently established league is going to reflect current values. |
Hey bro do you want to come to my cottage? |
| It is also not lost on me that on average gay female players are demonstrably better than cis female players. |
Current values to who? |
| What is it about kicking a ball that attracts so many lesbians to play it? |
The point of this post was to cheer sports teams and not bring politics into the arena. It’s supposed to be a place where people can be entertained and escape. It’s not supposed to be taken over by a faction of people who want to advertise their values to people who are paying to enjoy a sporting event. |
The politics was already there. And hanging a few rainbow flags is not "taking over" anything. If you just want to focus on the soccer, go ahead and do so. They aren't stopping you from watching the game. The question is why a few flags that aren't blocking your view seem to impinge so much on your viewing experience. No one is trying to convert you or your kids. Legalizing gay marriage doesn't make it compulsory for people who don't want it. Perhaps you don't like sharing space with someone who you think doesn't have the same values you do. I have to do that all the time in this country, especially these days. |
