Caps Academy would be a good place to start. I heard they didn't get the numbers of players they expected or players at the skill level they hoped, so they should have options for players at more of a developmental or loser-end travel level

that's what happens when you ignore the girls and they all leave to play somewhere else I suppose?

It sounds very much like their travel team will be more of a house league or house selects level of a team, so I agree with you that it seems that all their better girls have left and didn't come back.

Girls is hard. You have to build from the ground up and understand that there will be a lot of attrition at the older ages until your base is created. In this area, the better girls will want to dual roster or play boys for as long as possible because it's simply more competitive and better for skill development, to a point. Some girls are just never as comfortable playing with boys and play differently with the boys. Girls do tend to get shuffled to D, and have to work much harder to develop offensive skill/instinct. There is always a learning curve when they switch to all girls, but. A lot of time the difficulty is that it's hard to fill a travel team when you are starting out. There are some girls who want to play with girls, but treat it more like rec and are there more for fun. Then there are families that want true travel and take things a lot more seriously. Because any given program, especially starting out, is only going to have one team at one age level vs boys where you could have house, select, and travel and all different levels. It's hard to be everything to everyone. I'm glad that CHA is finally starting, but this is not unexpected.

This is why you see most of the more serious girls players filter over to MYHA and STJ at younger ages. I think both of their 10U teams (and maybe 12U) play a significant number of games against coed travel teams. So then you get the best of both worlds - all girls teams plus better competition. I've heard some people say the girls programs at those clubs are better coached and better at development than their coed programs.

The downside is that most of the talent goes to those clubs and also maybe Reston and Tri City, leaving every other girls team in the area considerably weaker than those four. We have very concentrated girls talent in the area.
