DS toured both. Fell in love with both for different reasons. He cant decide.
Got in Miami Herbert and Pepperdine Int Business program. But also interested in both of their International Studies Major.
He likes Pepperdine Study Abroad program better, but feels like Miami is a better business school.
He understands the small “concervative and religious”bias at Pepperdine and he is not worried about it having been at a Christian school his whole life. He has friends at both schools and they are all telling him what he wants to hear.

Anyone here with experience having kids at either school?

He is also waiting for U of St Andrews but not sure he will get in. SAT 1470, GPA 3.82/4 UW.

OP here. Straight rejection from St Andrews. Pep vs Miami it is.

Sorry to hear that. It looks like St Andrews had a pretty competitive year. Pepperdine and Miami are both great options. Go visit, spend some time on campus and around the area and see how DS feels about each one.

If business, go with the U. Miami-Herbert is a very good b-school. Had lunch with a guy today whose kid went there, now working IB at Morgan Stanley in NYC. Miami is also a rising financial center in its own right -- see Citidel et al., so the internship opportunities for Herbert b-school students will be good.

True that Herbert is a good b-school, but if you plan on staying the West coast, Pepperdine would be a better fit. Small but tight alumni base and it is not like LA falls behind Miami on anything…..

I’m assuming the St Andrews application was for their business school, but which program? Mgmt, Econ or Finance?

Management.

It does look like it was very competitive this year. I know two kids that applied to St Andrews, one got in and the other didnt. They both had great GPAs, a number of APs and scored high on SATs.

Regardless, the reality is that you are splitting hairs here between. Pepperdine and Miami. They are both good schools and it is more about fit and environment at this point than anything else. Your kid should be proud of having these two choices!

Agree with this. If East Coast -> Miami, if West Coast -> Pepperdine…..

I wonder how schools like Pepperdine and Miami will do in the next 10 years with the headwinds with student demographics and loan issues/int student issues.
