7 International Trips for Kids - Where?

Anonymous
OP are there any locations with heritage connections to you? Our first trip to Europe with our kid included my husbands family’s village of origin. It was meaningful to do that as a family.

My son LOVED Glacier National Park. He also loved Scotland.

Can you do glacier in November, December or March/April?

We hiked in Glacier the last week of October. There are very few people there then. It was beautiful.

On our first day, we did not have hiking poles. We are in our 60s and there was some snow on the ground so we stopped in Kalispell and bought hiking poles for day two. I made sure we brought food and water on our hikes as there were not many people around.

If I had to do it again, I would carry one of those Epirb hiking devices that you activate if you come into trouble.

The Ranger station closed the day before we went into our hikes. We managed to talk to the Rangers about areas that were still open.

In off-season I recommend staying in Whitefish and driving over each day.

This. If I had been more aware of this, I would have front-loaded travel in middle school and set low expectations for high school.

Good point.

Yeah sadly COVID hit when my oldest were in middle school — we had been waiting until the youngest was a little older to travel and then bam, lost the two years we had planned to do the most traveling. My oldest really has not travelled a lot as a result as it was so hard for her to travel in HS due to her ECs and exams.

Only time to go is in winter. Less crowd and less smell from the canals.

Safari in Africa
Angkor Wat and then either Thailand or Vietnam
Northern Norway or Sweden like Tromso in winter

Seriously? If everyone did this much travel in their lifetime, emissions from jets would choke our planet. I'm not some beatnik environmentalist, but this seems like a little much, especially for kids.

Yes this is ridiculous. I’m 53 and have only been to one of these places. All these people who jet to Asia at the drop of the hat blow my mind.

Sounds like a great trip but not very useful in this thread given OP explicitly stated their time parameters.
