Why don't more kids want Wesleyan?

Fiction….if it isn’t fiction you got bigger problems dealing with a maladjusted child.

DP. Is it just the one rabid Wesleyan supporter/booster? Good grief.

I have a HS junior interested in Wesleyan. It's a good balance of close but not too close, highish but not highest stats, not too far from NYC/PHL/Boston, slightly larger and more diverse than some of the other New England SLACs. We visited in August and he really liked the campus, we had a good tour guide, the town seemed just fine (but I have another kid at a more remote SLAC, so my standards are pretty low.)

What's not to like?

No one wants your stupidity at any college except maybe Liberty or Hillsdale fool

DP but it partly explains it. Most liberal school in the country and second worst in viewpoint diversity is going to exclude close to 50% from applying right off the bat. Typical liberal response immediately calling someone stupid though.

Most smart people are liberal. Conservatives are idiots who’s moral principle runs off the idea that we should oppress people who don’t look like us or believe in the same things as us.

Proving my point again. Stereotypes and name calling.

+1
Not to mention, terrible grammar.

Haha. It’s okay to say you’re illiterate.

OP, I am from New England and Wesleyan is extremely popular. LAC tend to have more regional appeal.

Carleton had the academic and community vibe our son was looking for. The dedication to teaching and mentoring undergrads is much stronger at Carleton than Wes and we thought it was a better school as a result.

Campus was meh

And we thought it was odd that the tour guides weren’t allowed to walk backwards.

It's a tiny liberal arts school in rural Connecticut. It has always appealed to a very niche crowd and will continue to.

Campus, location and town left a lot to be desired. It was depressing, similar to Bucknell tbh.

That's the answer to OP's question.

But. Midwest.
Families can be so snobbish and insist not leaving New England

I got a fantastic education there. Also wonderful film program. Grads like Lin Manuel Miranda, Mike White etc.

Wes doesn’t care. That’s the point. It’s a special place. The people who go there aren’t crazy strivers. As a grad, I feel it is important to live an interesting, purposeful life.

One kid liked Wes quite a bi, but liked another peer school better, so ED'ed there instead. The Wes campus was just ok, and the town was meh.

For the other kid, too artsy and didn't like location at all.

Just because more people know about it doesn't change the type of person who goes. What elitist nonsense.
