So you were tired of your kids being home one day a week so you decided to keep them home all the time?

If homeschooling is for you, then great. I thought about it during covid.
But the whole "stupid religion we don't care about" language seems unnecessary.
The vast majority of days off are days they have to schedule off anyways.
It doesn't seem like a bad idea to have them coincide with major holidays.

This. Fewer days off would mean a longer summer. And if what you really care about is the education, long summers have been shown to cause significant backslide in learning.

And what do studies show about multiple broken weeks of school? It doesn't matter how much summer learning loss there is if there is no learning in the first place.

For some working parents it was the only day they could be at the school some. Not all parents can take off any other day that's not a federal holiday.

+1. When my kids were in elementary school in FCPS they had an excellent Veterans Day program. The kids learned so much about Veterans Day and had an assembly with songs and presentations, and they invited all of the veterans in the family community to attend. It was really heart warming.

+2 The elementary school did an amazing job honoring veterans with a breakfast and programs that day. Parents, grandparents, etc were all welcome. It was a really nice way for kids to connect with veterans - particularly with their grandparents.

I grew up in a largely immigrant community and we had assembly.
As a largely immigrant community there weren't a lot of military families so we honored the veterans on then faculty.
Audie Murphy was mentioned at least once.

You mean the one where the kids were all telelearning?

There should be evidence with the schools out in the mid west who have 4 day weeks due to budgets

A ton of educational and enrichment programming is available in the summers. Very few options exist for one off Tuesdays, even the REC center camps— which aren’t particularly amazing but are something— don’t cover it all. If you care about learning you want consistency and repetition, especially in the early years.
