Better for high-end career; UPenn or Duke?

Penn's president was not fired because she is female.

Penn is a top 10 college with #1 undergraduate business, #1 MBA program, #5 law school, top 3 medical school, and so on.

Not really true, Penn has strong grad programs but you don't have to embellish. Their MBA is more comparable to top 3-5, while law school and medical school are more like top 10.

What ignorance on display here.

Wharton is #1 MBA. This is without question. Law school is top 5 and medical school is top 3.

There is no embellishment here. Just facts that anybody in these fields would agree with.

Indeed.

I went to Wharton for my MBA. Wharton is not "without question" #1. It could be argued to be #1, but does not stand out from HBS or Stanford. I would actually probably put it third behind those two though it isn't an apples-to-apples comparison. It is definitely better than Fuqua, though it does not blow it away.

Obviously not a doctor but I think the med schools are on par with each other. I don't think one can argue with a straight face that one is significantly better than the other. Same with the law schools (again, not as familiar with these but I'm pretty confident about this).

I really hate the posters here who post with so much conviction. Show a little humility. The more confident your post is, the less likely it is to be valid unless you clearly cite your credentials (though I'm sure many lie).

I went to Penn for a dual degree program and while I have a lot of pride in Penn, you're wrong on multiple things.

First and foremost, I respect Duke as a peer school and accept it's better than us in multiple aspects and academic programs, while we're better than them in other programs. Now to your specifics on professional schools:

1. Wharton (business school) is not the #1 MBA. It's pretty universally considered #3 behind Harvard and Stanford. Wharton is a clear cut above Fuqua though.
2. Carey (law school) is borderline top 5. The undisputed top 3 are Harvard, Stanford, and Yale. Then some mix of Columbia, Penn, Duke, UChicago, NYU, and UVA could all claim a reason to be in the top 5.
3. Perelman (medical school) is not top 3. Generally the top 3 is some mix of Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Duke, UCSF, and Stanford. Penn is right up in the next level with WashU, Yale, Columbia, and NYU.

I don't think it is "a tier above". One can argue it is marginally better. But they are relatively close.

What a dumb post. Yes, I went to Wharton. and no, as someone else just agreed with me, we are probably #3. Perhaps we are #1. But I would say 3. And most others would agree with me. You are going to argue with someone who downranks their own school? Really? Usually it is people over-inflating their alma mater.

This board is such a cesspool of ignorance, over-confidence, lies, and misinformation. It could be a valuable resource but it is not.

Where did you go to school? They clearly didn't teach logic, negotiations, how to write persuasively, and other such topics there.

I get more value out of going to Reddit and watching nerds argue over whether Batman could beat up Captain America.

The goal here is to ensure your child has normal self esteem and perspective on life and does not ever rely on “my college was number one and yours was NUMBER THREE” on an anonymous message board.
