I think sun exposure is critically valuable within limits. I do wear sunscreen when in the sun for extended amounts of time and always on my face. The sun as well as sunscreen has both benefits and harms. It is all about balance. This is not a MAGA thing. There was a really good article in the Atlantic about this.

An orthopedic... People with fair skin can get vitamin d from other sources. Having large areas of your facial skin removed isn't worth this stupidity. Melanoma isn't the only concern. |
We seem to be more stupid than we used to be. Most people don't understand the very basic principles of statistics and this makes me hopeless. |
"balance" what a load of bs. |
Do you rub lotions/makeup on your face and body? They're also chemicals. Spray perfume on yourself, use scented products? They're all chemicals but you freak over a very basic product that saves lives. So, so stupid. |
Is this a joke? I would have assumed so years ago, but with the orange man and that crazy guy shutting down vaccine research maybe it's serious. |
Or they could just die, which is also an easy fix. |
This is absolute bull shite. You could not be more wrong. I'm so sick of this. The current administration has taught people that you can just make crap up, scream it to the world, and some people will believe this. |
Guess working in windowless offices for decades has made me one of the lucky ones!! |

Spouse has had melanoma, I have had mohs surgery for a small cancer on my face and another larger cancerous growth removed (was biopsied and then I had to go back for them to "dig out the cancer" because the biopsy found malignancy).
You bet we slather the kids in sunscreen, as we do ourselves, as they all have a combination of both of our fair skin |
You are so dumb you don't realize how meaningless your question is. Sunscreens contain chemicals that block the sun's rays. The chemicals are not "unhealthy". Because you are dumb, you assume chemicals are all bad. Food contains chemicals, lotions, shampoos, toothpaste contain chemicals. We can go on forever with this game. D.U.M.B. |
| I think sunscreen is a scam. I'm in my 30s. |
Yes? My blood work gets checked every year. Never had low Vitamin D. Never had skin cancer despite terrible family history of melanoma. Also you know you can take a vitamin for that, right? So A) sunscreen doesn't fully prevent vitamin D,l absorption try going outside once in a while but B) pretending it did, you don't have to have aged skin or skin cancer to avoid Vitamin D deficiency. |
Or maybe people can look at all the things like DDT and asbestos that scientists swore were safe once upon a time. Fool people enough times and they get skeptical. We’re starting to realize we got scammed with fluoride and things like sunscreen are just getting started. |

I use sunscreen but I think the adherence to sunscreen is over the top. We’re meant to see the sun. Most of us barely get sun exposure and when we do, we slather it on.
Balance is key here and we seem to have lost it. |
