1. All you need is love; not religion. 2. There are two sides to the political equation. On one side you have the good American people fighting to retake control of their Federal government. On the other side you have the toxic ultra-wealthy mega-donors of our awful two major political parties. I know which side I am on. How about you? |
All you need is trust which religion offers.
So does liberal ideology until it finds itself in a crisis mode. |
You're a real smart one. |
"And Democrats, don’t feel too self-righteous here. If he was on your team, most of you would like him too. You may deny it, but you’re lying to yourself."
This line is just plain wrong. The Democrats threw out Al Franken because he pretended to do something lewd. No, David Brooks, your side has fallen for a con man because the republican world view is fundamentally insular and xenophobic. |
Exactly. |
They threw out Al Franken because he made it inconvenient to go after Trump. |
They threw him out because they care about having ethical leaders. Republicans don't care about having ethical leaders. You may deny it, but you’re lying to yourself. |
I genuinely wish this were true. I’m a lifelong Democrat who used to believe this. But I don’t any more, and I consider the far left as sociopathic as the far right. The Democrats are just deluding themselves because it’s important for their self-perception and ego to ignore the deep harms in the party. |
It’s very simple. There are many terrible people who support Trump. Trump is bad but his followers are worse. |
They literally think he was sent by God. Maybe he was?? But not for the reasons his supporters think. |
+1 You can't question the left about anything without being called racist. |
Yes, he does what he said. Like robbing working people to give more money to billionaires, and destroying science research in the US, weakening our democracy, deporting people to a concentration camp. |
The far right is currently in charge. The far left has never been in charge in America. If you consider the current batch of democrats in charge to be far left, you aren’t really a democrats, anyway. Just join the cult. |
Really?? I'm new to this thread and I think you're being hyperbolic but I'll give you the opportunity to back these assertions up: Can you give me three examples of criticisms of specific democrat policies that you were called racist over that had absolutely nothing whatsoever even remotely to do with race? Can you give me three examples of democrat policies that you think are over-the-top sociopathic? |
PP, you’re playing right into the falsehood Brooks is pushing here - the hypothetical that Dems are just as bad. The simple point is that Democrats have not done what Republicans have. Hypotheticals aren’t evidence. Brooks’ premise is that Donald Trump is not “good,” but for some reason a lot of people think he is. And those lot of people are people Brooks has identified with on values and politics his entire adult life. He’s trying to rationalize that here, not offer any useful insight. This piece is therapy for him. |
