I have an elderly relative, devoted Republican, who loathes "libs" and calls anyone who disagrees with him all sorts of names. He gets really unhinged especially when you ask him to defend his point or call out a fallacy in his thinking. We've been at family parties where he gets really vicious whenever anyone disagrees with him. Meanwhile, he has health issues from work. He rants against solar and wind power while hacking up his lungs (again, his cough is from his job). I'm this close to telling him to his face next Thanksgiving that I support environmental regulations so I don't end up with a cough like his.

Now in his 70s, he rails about the "commies" but never seems to give any thought to the fact that he was in his industry when regulations were weak or nonexistent. It doesn't occur to him that he's in bad condition because of callous businessmen like the ones who have been petitioning the federal government to strip away regulations, the same businessmen who saw workers like him and still see blue collar workers like him, as disposable.

You can't help these people. They're their own worst enemy. And most depressing of all, they'd rather see the next generation suffer if it means "winning."

The US is expected to lose $29 billion in tourism revenue this year. This includes $12 billion lost and $17 billion we expected to gain. We are the ONLY COUNTRY with tourism declining.

I am in Canada right now. They are politely ignoring the existence of the US. When they ask where we are from and we tell them, they just politely say something like “oh ok” and change the subject.

Nope. The interview was with Lankford. Only Lankford. And, the bill that Republicans voted down was authored by him. They knew it was a horrible bill. Of course Lankford is going to defend the bill. It was HIS bill.
