It could have been a slap, but you don't see more than her hand on his face, appearing to push him away by the face. I don't know what French customs are, and you can get into a lot of misperceptions if you judge by your cultural standards. After 10 hours of perhaps a very bumpy plane ride, all bets are off if one high strung individual pushes someone away by the face with a "get out of my face" snarl. I wouldn't get all bent out of shape by something like that. Now, if they punched me, that would be a different matter. I'm female if that matters.

Can you imagine the response here if that had been Trump filmed with Melania? All these abuse-defenders would be howling (correctly). It’s sick behavior.

Complete hypocrites

And some of the worst, most pro-domestic abuse comments were alerted on and thankfully removed!

Don’t ever let people posting on this site pretend they are superior; they aren’t.

Those posts were horrifying but boy did they show some insight into the minds of some of the extreme partisans here on DCUM.

Not that it makes it right to put hands on someone, but she didn't "smack" him at all.

I'm sorry, but I'm crying at this whole first paragraph. Mrs. Macron needs you on her PR team.

I have no doubt Macron was being slick at the mouth, but she should have kept her hands to herself.

I agree with the bolded.

It wasn't a "smack". Did she put hands on him? Absolutely. Was that a good thing to do? Absolutely not.

And it wasn't a "smack". Y'all need to learn how to accurately describe events so you don't ruin your credibility and get stuck in semantics arguments. It doesn't take a PR team to say "pushed him" or "appeared to shove him"

That’s literally a slap. Pushing someone away by the face.

Did she leave a handprint?

Slapping on the face is the ultimate sign of disrespect. It also didn’t seem like he said anything to her right before which means it was not in the heat of an argument which makes it even worse.

He’s a battered guy

I'm French and love my President.

Mrs. Macron has always behaved with public decorum in the past, so I have two explanations for this:

Either

1. She's in early stages of dementia.

Or

2. He's been a little too open about his relationships with his bodyguards one too many times.

DCUM, please don't feel bad for Emmanuel. I love his vision for France and Europe, and I am sad he's term-limited, but I'm well aware that like all heads of state, he's arrogant and self-centered and does exactly what he pleases. They are both adults and have agency here.

Wow, I’m out of the loop. I had only seen his wife for the first time when they were with the Biden’s in Normandy for the D-day commemoration, last June. Not knowing anything about their relationship, I assumed she was ill and thought cancer. I searched their past and holy crap! Awful! She’s 72 and a pedophile. Slap or face smash or whatever is glaring evidence of a psychopath. She stole his youth, life, chance for biological children.

He’s described as being a prodigy child from a good family. Would he have been President of France without her?

At this point he should just hold out for the financial windfall, and Melania. Bridgette and Donnie don’t have much time left for this world.

Macron was 15 years old when he began to be groomed and raped by the adult who is now hitting him in the face on the world stage, in front of cameras and staff.

You are victim blaming and it’s disgusting.

She is a predator that is violent with her prey.

Agree. However, How do you know the party of the people posting? We have a lot of trolls in here ready to stir the pot.

Can you imagine if the two of them “had a laugh” and the camera caught him pushing his wife in the face?! What kind of craziness is his staff used to that they went ahead and opened the door amongst whatever was unfolding between the two of them?

What more could she possibly take from him? She stole the best years of his life. She’ll leave this world without justice. If he’s cheating, so be it. If not, he should divorce. Can’t find a public prenup. She’s allegedly worth a measly ~10 million. Allegedly, his net worth is ~2 million. Cut the ties that bind, man! Decades of life left.

He shouldn’t have hogged all the airplane snacks. People get mighty irate when somebody grabs that little pack of pretzels all for themselves.
