Or a solution is to make people who have not paid the 4.4% yet pay back retroactively. That would be fairer than the solution you just proposed. |
You call for some sort of fake fed solidarity while arguing to keep a divisive setup in place. In any even before this new admin I thought it best that all feds pay evenly (either the 0.8 or 4.4 or whatever). I don't have to think otherwise just because some other feds do so. Why would I? |
How is it fairer? The law was changed in the 2010s to make new employees pay more. The fair solution is to make them pay LESS, not to force additional people to suffer. That doesn’t help you at all. The stability of the retirement fund is not at risk under the current system, and it wasn’t when everyone paid 0.8. You are motivated purely by spite. Get some help. |
The injustice was changing the law to make new hires pay more. Making other people pay more doesn’t correct that. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Even children know that. |
There was only one wrong (forcing new hires to pay more and not everyone else) and now that wrong is bring fixed. There isn't a second "wrong" that exist. |
Yes, that is a fair option, to now make everyone pay 0.8. But it is also fair to make everyone pay 4.4. What makes you happy isn't the arbiter of fairness. They aren't contacting me to figure out what makes me happy either. |
| Dual GS14s here- that’s 11,500+ more. Sadly that’s like two vacations for our family. Guess we need to start saving even more to make up for it. |
It is so depressing that people think this way. I mean, I know there are many of you out there and that’s part of why we’re in this crisis. But it’s still depressing. |

This is exactly how the middle class was eroded. Having us argue amongst ourselves and crying it’s unfair when someone has something better than you instead of asking the people who pay why everyone doesn’t have a good deal. The average American has now been conditioned to hate federal workers for having certain benefits instead of asking their corporate overlords why they they lost theirs.
Stop feeling glad that the government may stick it to those older workers because you think your deal wasn’t very good. Get angry at those people who are trying to find money for tax cuts for the rich on the backs of federal workers. With the firings, we already have at the office, thanks |
No one is arguing here. I don't really ever argue with adults as I know my mere words will not make them think anything. I am just letting you know what I think is right and repeating myself when you respond. |
Happy that we will receive equal pay for equal work now. That takes away my depression. So I guess things even out. Your feelings are not more important than mine. |
No |
But the House is much worse |
Well, can I get back pay to compensate for the maternity leave and student loan repayment that wasn’t available for us? Fair is fair. |
You are going to have a tough life if you are always going to be jealous when others have something you don’t. Those whose loss you are celebrating now invested far more of their careers than you have into an expectation that was pulled from underneath them. You at least had the opportunity to decide up front. I don’t expect this comment to engender empathy from you any more than the earlier ones but I feel sorry for you and your hate. |
