There’s a simulation component to epf and ap economics calls virtual business personal finance The ap kids knock those out in about a week after the ap exam. It’s like a double super secret loophole that really isn’t but it’s just enough to check the box. |
I seem to find these loopholes after the fact - are there other loopholes? |
| With ChatGPT, kids do not even need to go to Quizlet to get the answers... it is sad as I also think the class could be very useful. All online classes really need to re-think the assessment components with the AI, some in-person tests is the obvious answer for now. |
In person tests would negate the fact that this is an ONLINE class. Families like the ease and the flexibility to be able to work while on vacation or what not. This is a P/F required graduation class, online in the summer. It is not designed to be tricky or hard - that is not the purpose. It doesn’t matter if the kids use quizlet or whatever. They get 3 attempts to answer the exit tickets correctly anyway. The exit tickets are easy. |
Ah just that if you pass an honors or ap course that counts for your industry credential exam requirement. Hence why every school in the county offers epf honors instead of just epf. |
It’s an asynchronous course designed to be completed by the student with no support whatsoever from facilitators aside from “you’re behind get to work” The course is not perfect but it doesn’t need in person tests. If you want in person tests have your kid take the class you know in person |

I saw this class on the DE course offerings: Economics & Personal Finance DE (6120DE) FIN 150 from Longwood University.
Saw this after DC finished Econ and Personal Finance; If this DE class counts as an equivalent? Why aren't more kids doing it for the +1 DE bump vs a pass/fail? |
This is why the summer math classes require the midterm and final be taken in person and they are worht more for the final grade. It is too easy to cheat on the work otherwise. |
Because self directed epf is so easy that the cost of the DE class would outweigh any real benefit. I always wondered why more kids didn’t do it though. But one thing to keep in mind is that any DE class requires the instructor to have a degree higher than the attainable degree in the subject matter. A DE instructor would need to have an Econ or finance degree plus teaching credentials and I mean who person with an Econ or finance degree who is that deeply interested in studying says ooooh I hope I can use this degree to teach you this to high schoolers instead of making 6 figures. Probably the number of instructors is also pretty low too |
Know anyone that has taken it? Curious difficulty level |
The course is via Longwood U - I figured one of the professors or grad student would be teaching it. |
| My kid is done with course and registered to take WISE exam. Says fee is $10. Does she pay at exam site? Is it covered by tuition that was already paid? |
There is no fee to take the wise exam. You just show up on the announced date from facilitator sit down and take the test then find out 5 minutes after you finish if you passed And if fcps is making you pay for it during the summer then do not go take it. Go to school in the fall and tell the epf/cte testing person (it’s a cte teacher), your kid needs to take the wise exam and that’ll get sorted but you should not be paying for it out of pocket. |
| Is the Wise test required for graduation? Facilitator seemed to imply it was optional. |
optional |
