Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Day School

What is really interesting is the number of kids turning down NCS and "better" schools for those that aren't the "top 3." It seems to speak more about NCS and those schools than the 8th graders.

Academics ramp up and differentiate more in middle school. One of my kids ended up taking advanced classes and the one who has graduated started freshman year taking sophomore year math and honors english classes.

The elementary years are kind and warm with the intention of not drowning in homework. So, I do bet DCPS gives more homework, but does not necessarily result in a better outcome.

You have to trust the process that at the end of 8th grade your children will be prepared for the next step, which is the point of an N-8th school! But if you are desperate to end up at Sidwell or GDS, whether it is the right place for your kid or not, then you are one of the people who will panic and leave early!

We left St Pats for Sidwell after 6th grade because the middle school experience was that unpleasant. So happy we made the switch - I wouldn't call it "panicking" or "desperation."

Are they actually planning to build a new middle and upper school on Foxhall? If so, I wonder how their upper school will be in terms of rigor and how college placement will be.

These plans look great but I haven't seen any construction...

Curious to know where the folks leaving in middle school ended up. At another K-8 or K-12?

St Patrick’s is not adding an upper school! They are starting a process of building a new middle school, but the plans on Foxhall are about 20 years old and not being used. No idea why that architect still has them on their website.

Most got to St Albans, Landon, Holton, NCS, or Sidwell.

Great, so mom and dad have friends there. How does that help your child if the academics are this weak?

The Head of School just announced plans to build a new middle school building on Whitehaven, across the street from the lower school (to the left of the gym building), with the goal of opening Fall 2028.

This link appears to be broken. Is there another place where I can find the outplacement by student? My DC will be attending the pre-K program this year and I am curious to see the outplacement success. Thank you in advance!

It appears like half the class got into a top three school or boarding school equivalent, which seems impressive. I think Beauvoir is the only school that doesn’t go through 12th grade that has better results.

So if half did get into a top three school, that means half did not. Which was my point that about half the class got an outcome that most would consider to not be “top”. Not necessarily the “greatest outplacement I’ve ever seen” as PP said.

Apart from Beauvoir to other schools have better outplacement?

Getting in to 9th grade is hard. At this point they are taking students based on their academic work and scores.

So 12 out of 31 went to big 3 schools or top boarding school. I’d say NPS’ outplacement is comparable with 10 out of 27 going to big 3 schools. But both St. Patrick’s and NPS have good outplacement. St Pat’s has more kids going to athletic schools like Dematha, Bullis, and Georgetown Prep. NPS kids that don’t go to big 3 schools typically end up at Holton Arms or Landon.

No k-8 I’ve seen sends more than 50% of their class to a big 3.

Both NPS and St. Patrick’s seem to have excellent outplacement results. People can throw stones all they want, but it’s hard to imagine that either school has a terrible math or literacy program when 50% of the class is going to a top three school.
