Why do Democrats like to call white men "dudes"?

I remember the white dudes for Trump when they marched in Charlottesville VA?

Yes but it was the swastikas and “you won’t replace us” chant that made them racist, not the fact they were white dudes. You get the difference, right?

Agree And those are the types of white dudes that support Trump. On brand.

Do you consider “Blacks for Trump” racist?

doh

No. The name is not racist. I can’t speak to the individuals.

+1

Every complaint from the LEFT about the RIGHT is either stupid, projection, hyperbolic, glaring hypocrisy or an outright lie.

They’ve kept marching.

Which is why it’s good that the Democrats are reaching out to White men.

Right.

Why do Republicans read something online and immediately attribute it to half of the people in the United States?

I said it seems most prevalent among Democrats. Not that all Democrats do it. Put your head in the sane all you want, but consider whether things like this contribute to pushing men away from the Democratic Party. It is embarrassing to listen to, and I would never associate with something like that.

So your entire political identity is influenced by something as mundane as a single political event using the word "dude"? I genuinely feel sorry for you and the level of self consciousness and social anxiety you must experience on a day to day basis. It must be very painful.

Don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I was using the “dude” terminology before, it’s easy, non-pejorative, mono-syballic lol

Seriously, don’t think about it too hard

Stewart said this to Obama. "Larry Summers did a heckuva job..." "You don't want to use that phrase here dude".

But it is most prevalent among Democrats and liberals. I don't think it's inane. It may seem minor to you, but the gender gap is real. And the whole "dude" thing just makes it more apparent. Might as well trot out Ned Flanders to propose that "us dudes" have a talk about voting for Democrats. It's embarrassing and off-putting. There is also an undertone of condescension to it--like we're not even going to call you a "man" or "men," but rather "dudes."

Dude, you can’t possibly think Ned Flanders was a democrat. You just disproved your theorem.

Your Freudian slip is showing. ;)

People want sane. They are tired of the descent into madness and the weird. Don't go back.

It's weird Republicans are triggered by "weird" and "dude".....

Dude is just a slang word used in casual conversation. Pretty common and really has no deeper meaning about a person who uses it. I much prefer the company of people who use casual slang like dude over the company of pedantic bullies who use style over substance to bash other people.

Ok hon, you stay over there caring very much about men calling themselves dudes, and the rest of us will be over here trying to elect the person who doesn’t want to end American democracy. Deal?

You do you, but you're a fool. You are pushing people away instead of listening. That is the Democrats problem. Same braindead as always.

Why should anyone listen to another person who isn’t engaging in good faith? That’s the MAGA problem. Nothing fervent MAGA people do or say is in good faith, especially the the threads they start on social. They’re typically either a straw man premise or “when did you stop beating your wife” type question. Like this thread.

The White Dudes for Harris thing was tongue in cheek, btw. But I can see how Trump supporters cannot fathom self-deprecation.

Why haven’t there been any Americans for Harris Zoom calls? Democrats are really leaning into their segregationist roots I see. Weird.

OP here. Coming back to say the whole thing sounds as try hard, embarrassing and cringey as I would have expected. See a description here: https://www.thefp.com/p/white-dudes-for-harris-river-page

Some good excerpts:

"If you’re wondering why the Harris campaign organized an event just for white guys—so am I. But the trend for segregated fundraisers is really taking off: in the last week we’ve also had Zoom calls for black women for Kamala, white women for Kamala, Latinas for Kamala, and more.

It’s weird. It was especially weird that the first guest on “White Dudes for Harris,” Maurice Mitchell, is demonstrably not a white dude; he’s not even a Democrat. He’s the head of the Working Families Party—a minority left-wing political party mostly active in New York. He celebrated policies that Kamala Harris has never voiced support for, like an arms embargo in Gaza. He encouraged the white guy audience to “get in formation,” which I assume is a reference to the Beyoncé song."

And this one:

"With little exception, the speakers focused on social issues, particularly—and perhaps oddly, given the audience—abortion and race. Many were incensed by the fact some Republicans have been calling Kamala a “DEI candidate.”

One speaker stood out for addressing white men specifically and consistently throughout: Jimmy Williams Jr., president of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, who touted Biden’s economic accomplishments and praised Kamala for standing beside him. The president’s infrastructure bill, Williams said, created jobs for white guys, specifically, and bailed out the union pensions of white guys, specifically. He said that Trump had been bad for working-class white men who worked in construction, specifically.

It’s difficult to imagine another Democrat saying such a thing in a non-disparaging manner, particularly given the climate the left has fostered in the last several years, which has been particularly hostile to working-class white men. In a 2022 interview with Pete Buttigieg, MSNBC host Joy Ann Reid dismissed Biden’s infrastructure bill as a “white guy employment act.”

“You look at the jobs we’re going to create, and yeah, they have been traditionally white and male, but it doesn’t have to stay that way,” replied the transportation secretary, essentially conceding that there was something wrong with giving productive jobs to blue-collar white men."

And a valid question at the end:

"But is “Haha, don’t worry, we’re the good ones” a winning strategy for appealing to white men who haven’t decided to vote for Kamala yet? Probably not."
