Many Indians (me included) think it’s perfectly lovely when non Indians wear Indian clothes to an Indian event.

But maybe not as much bling as a regular Indian bride?

It was more the necklace and headpiece Khloe wore and the makeup. She was clearly trying to look Indian.

In some of her stories, Kim’s skin looked darker than usual.

She really was not that pretty and it's the magic of makeup. I think she has had her skin lightened using those Korean techniques. She was very dark in 2001.

The Indian women who do that all look very eerie. Like their skin is this strange pale color and sort of see through. Aishwarya Rai looks like that, as does the mother of the groom.

That's a myth. You gain weight all over your body. We just can't see under her dress.

Mother of the groom is naturally fair but she had aging reversal procedures done.

She’s SOUTH Indian.

And she’s still beautiful.

It’s harder for a beautiful woman to age gracefully because people won’t let them.

Both youth and aging are harder for plain women.

Do you think that the display of immense wealth of Indians at the Ambani wedding, the clout that Modi and India has in geopolitics, and wealth of expats as displayed at the Cricket World Cup in US, were reason that Trump wants to woo Indians and chose JD Vance because he is married to a high achieving Indian-American woman?

Disagree. I imagine aging is harder on a beautiful woman because her looks were such a central part of who she was when younger.

No. Hillbilly Elegy/swing state votes/youth and aggressive attitude are way more important than a Supreme Court clerking non-public-figure spouse. It might actually help to get votes just to have a non-white 2nd Lady. Doesn't matter what non-white ethnicity. It shows some ability to appeal to more than Trump's core demographic.

She must be an interesting person. I look forward to learning more about her. Does anyone here have any comments on her background? I'm interested in what would make a poor ex-Marine interesting to a 2x Yalie from a conservative Indian background. They must have some sources of compatibility that are quite compelling (intellectual, sense of humor, etc.).

He could have just picked Nikki Haley if he wanted a high-achieving Indian-American woman.

Influence by displays of wealth? Really? Check out the wedding of the Duke of Westminster.

Nooo....my point is that no in power, in super powers, care about displays of wealth. The truly wealthy and influential and powerful in 1st world countries do not flaunt wealth.

With billions in the bank, boyish good looks, a property portfolio that eclipses the Crown’s and close ties to royalty, it is little wonder that Hugh Grosvenor — The seventh Duke of Westminster — was long considered to be Britain’s most eligible bachelor.

Despite Grosvenor’s high-ranking status and wealth, the duke keeps a fairly low profile (there is little evidence of him courting publicity). He might own substantial chunks of Belgravia and Mayfair, but he’s relatively low-key. Even the accompanying engagement announcement photograph spoke to favouring a more relaxed aesthetic — him, opting for an open-neck linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Her, with loose hair, minimal make-up and a simple jersey T-shirt.
